What You Will Do:

We are looking for a Scientific Writer to support executive communications, scientific and technical writing, knowledge management, and leadership engagement activities for the National Library of Medicine (NLM). This is a full-time position located in Bethesda, MD, with teleworking or remote eligibility.

  • Draft executive-level communications, including emails, briefing materials, reports, correspondence, talking points, and NLM news items.

  • Develop presentations, speaker notes, scripts, briefing books, Q&A documents, and other leadership communication materials.

  • Research, write, and edit scientific and technical content, including reports, policy papers, summaries, articles, speeches, and digital media products.

  • Conduct literature reviews and prepare concise summaries, reports, and presentations of scientific findings.

  • Develop and maintain SOPs, templates, style guides, toolkits, and other communications resources.

  • Manage and update knowledge management resources, including the NLM Office of the Director wiki and other content repositories.

  • Review, edit, and proofread documents to ensure scientific accuracy, quality, consistency, and completeness.

  • Support leadership communications, stakeholder engagement activities, working groups, and cross-NLM initiatives.

  • Translate complex scientific and programmatic information into clear content for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Coordinate with leadership, subject matter experts, and internal stakeholders to develop and execute communication strategies.

  • Provide guidance and expertise on scientific, technical, and executive communications best practices.

  • Assist with training, coaching, and development of writing and editing resources for staff.

What You Will Need:

  • Master's Degree

  • Minimum of TWO (2) years of experience in executive communications and/or strategic communications support.

  • Strong scientific and technical writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

  • Experience conducting literature reviews and synthesizing complex scientific information.

  • Experience preparing reports, presentations, briefing materials, and leadership communications.

  • Ability to translate technical and scientific information for non-technical audiences.

  • Knowledge of content management, knowledge management, and document control best practices.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "public trust"; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Experience supporting NIH, HHS, NLM, or other federal scientific organizations.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Familiarity with REPORTER, IMPAC II, wiki platforms, and enterprise content management systems.

  • Experience creating Section 508-compliant documents and presentations.

  • Graphic design experience supporting executive-level presentations and communications.

The annual salary range for this position is $57,300.00-$85,900.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
