Remote Fluid Power Engineer information

What is a remote fluid power engineer?

A Remote Fluid Power Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and troubleshoots hydraulic and pneumatic systems while working remotely, often using digital tools and communication platforms. They typically collaborate with teams to create efficient fluid power solutions for machinery, industrial equipment, or vehicles. These engineers may also provide technical support, oversee installations, and ensure system compliance with industry standards—all from a remote location. The role requires strong technical knowledge and the ability to work effectively without being physically present at the job site.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote fluid power engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Fluid Power Engineer, you need a strong background in mechanical or hydraulic engineering, experience with fluid power systems, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, hydraulic simulation tools, and industry-specific certifications such as Certified Fluid Power Engineer (CFPE) are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills help you collaborate remotely and address complex technical challenges. These abilities are crucial for designing, troubleshooting, and supporting fluid power systems efficiently from a remote setting.

How does a remote fluid power engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams to troubleshoot and optimize hydraulic systems?

Remote Fluid Power Engineers frequently work with on-site teams through virtual meetings, remote monitoring tools, and digital documentation platforms. They provide technical guidance, analyze system data, and recommend solutions for hydraulic or pneumatic system issues without being physically present. Effective communication and clear documentation are crucial, as engineers need to ensure their instructions are easily understood by the on-site staff. Building strong relationships with field technicians and maintenance crews also helps streamline troubleshooting and system optimization processes.

What is the difference between Remote Fluid Power Engineer vs Remote Mechanical Engineer?

AspectRemote Fluid Power EngineerRemote Mechanical Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Fluid Power certificationsBachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, relevant certifications
Work EnvironmentDesign, analyze, and troubleshoot hydraulic/pneumatic systems remotelyDesign and develop mechanical systems remotely
Industry UsageHydraulics, pneumatics, automation industriesManufacturing, product design, automation industries

The Remote Fluid Power Engineer specializes in hydraulic and pneumatic systems, often requiring specific certifications, and works primarily in automation and fluid power industries. In contrast, the Remote Mechanical Engineer has a broader focus on mechanical systems across various industries. Both roles involve remote work and engineering expertise, but their technical focus and industry applications differ.

substantially accelerating Transmission and Distribution planning tools using GPU technology.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Power Systems Engineer to support an innovation initiative focused on substantially accelerating Transmission and Distribution planning tools using GPU technology. This role will be responsible for modeling and converting existing Transmission and Distribution network models currently developed in CYME and GE PSLF into pandapower-based Python models, working with NVIDIA resources and performing steady state powerflow analysis for these models using GPUs and CUDA libraries.

The ideal candidate combines strong power systems fundamentals, hands-on experience with planning tools, and programming skills, and is excited to work at the intersection of power engineering and high-performance computing. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Transmission and Distribution network models using pandapower (Python)
  • Convert and validate existing network models from CYME and GE PSLF into pandapower equivalents
  • Ensure electrical fidelity between source models and converted models (topology, parameters, limits, results)
  • Work with engineers in developing Powerflow analysis solution using GPUs and CUDA libraries
  • Collaborate with power systems engineers, data scientists, and GPU/HPC specialists to enable GPU-accelerated simulations
  • Assist in benchmarking CPU vs GPU performance for power system studies
  • Document modeling assumptions, validation results, and technical findings for internal and executive audiences Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus preferred)
  • Strong foundation in power system analysis, including:
    • Power flow (AC/DC)
    • Transmission and Distribution modeling
    • Per-unit systems and network parameters
  • Hands-on experience with power system planning tools
  • Programming experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Transmission Planning and/or Distribution Planning studies
  • Understanding of power system matrices (Y?bus, Jacobian, PTDF/LODF)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
