Job description

Summary:
The position requires a dynamic individual with an environmental science, water quality, geology, biology, chemistry, or civil engineering background and the ability to work flexible hours (but primarily Monday through Friday) and a willingness to travel by vehicle routinely. The position will be extremely active and will include field assignments that involve conducting Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections and Best Management Practices (BMPs) design and installations for major utility companies in Northern California. Knowledge of SWPPP type work and possession of a Qualified Stormwater Practitioner (QSP) license is preferred. Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations is a plus. The position requires an individual who is capable of working independently on a daily basis and can conduct themselves in a professional manner with limited guidance.
Project sites are primarily in the Santa Rosa region.
The salary range for this position is based on level:
Level I: $59,875-$72,150 per year
Level II: $69,264-$84,156per year
Level III: $80,130-$98,159 per year
This position comes with a competitive and comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) plan with a 3% match, paid time off (PTO), and company-paid holidays.
This position requires up to 80% travel and qualifies as a Telecommute position when not in the field. The ideal candidate lives within a commutable distance of projects within the Santa Rosa region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - All Levels: (including but not limited to)
  • Conduct SWPPP field inspections and perform storm water sampling, and prepare technical research and documentation
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical plans and reports
  • Conducting regulatory compliance reviews and interpreting environmental codes and regulations
  • Collaborating with client, regulatory agencies, contractors, and other specialty project parties to develop plans and recommendations best suited for each individual site and project
  • Collecting and interpreting environmental sampling data, and providing field consultations as required
  • Reading specifications such as GIS and CAD figures to determine construction requirements and to help in planning procedures
  • Adhering to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project management
  • Enhancing company reputation by accepting ownership for the team's performance and adding value to assigned tasks
  • Assisting with the Proposal and Contract preparation process
  • Examining and inspecting work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met
  • Conferring with managerial and technical personnel, other departments, and contractors in order to resolve problems and to coordinate activities
  • Recording information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports; communicate with the Project Manager
  • Analyzing worker and production problems and recommending solutions, such as improving production methods or implementing motivational plans
  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager with the proposal and contract process
  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager with the estimating and invoicing process
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by management

Level Specific Responsibilities
Level - I
  • Project assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on assigned tasks
  • Execute assigned tasks in accordance with work plans and direction from higher-level staff
  • Acquire and/or develop an area of technical expertise
  • Engage program and project managers for task assignments
  • 50% - 75% of time may be spent conducting field work, potentially in remote locations

Level - II
  • Provide client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on projects
  • Maintain 1-2 areas of technical expertise
  • Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations
  • Technical project execution and document preparation, peer review of project documents
  • Assist with task order and project proposals
  • Technical mentoring
  • 40% - 60% of time may be spent conducting field work, potentially in remote locations

Level - III
  • Provide client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on projects
  • Maintain two areas of technical expertise
  • Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations
  • Lead technical project execution and document preparation, peer review project documents
  • Assist with task order and project proposals
  • Project staffing and technical mentoring
  • Manage smaller projects involving site characterization, long-term monitoring, and similar tasks
  • 10% - 40% of time may be spent conducting field work, potentially in remote locations

Minimum Qualifications
All levels:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Environmental Sciences or a similarly related field
  • Experience working on projects with utility companies
  • Valid Driver's License with clean driving record, able to drive a company vehicle
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adept at explaining technical aspects of field work to internal and external clients verbally and in writing

Level - I
  • Zero (0) to Three (3) years of relevant working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree, such as an MS, may be substituted for work experience

Level - II
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of relevant working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree, such as an MS, may be substituted for work experience

Level - III
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years of relevant working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree, such as an MS, may be substituted for work experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • California Qualified Stormwater Practitioner (QSP) or Qualified Stormwater Plan Developer (QSD) Certification. Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) or Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality (CPSWQ) or Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI)
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER training certificate
  • Current 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher certificate
  • CPR/1st Aid Certified
  • Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures
