Director of Procurement and Logistics

Position Overview

A growing manufacturing organization is seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Procurement and Logistics to lead and continuously improve its inbound and outbound freight, premium delivery, warehousing, asset inventory, and broader logistics operations.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, this individual will own the performance of assigned logistics-related P&L accounts with particular accountability for shipping and freight costs. The Director of Logistics will develop and execute strategies to improve service, maximize the utilization and ROI of internal logistics capabilities, protect high-value company assets, and reduce overall logistics costs.

This position will oversee a centralized asset warehouse, future remote logistics hubs, related personnel and inventory, carrier and freight-provider performance, and the operational coordination required to deliver a premium customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Own assigned P&L accounts related to shipping, freight, logistics, remote warehousing, and associated operating expenses while establishing budgets, forecasts, reporting, and performance metrics.
• Lead continuous cost-reduction initiatives across inbound and outbound freight through carrier optimization, routing strategies, freight-mode selection, consolidation, packaging improvements, and improved shipment planning.
• Negotiate, manage, and evaluate carrier, freight broker, warehouse, and third-party logistics relationships based on pricing, service levels, claims performance, reliability, and accountability.
• Oversee inbound and outbound freight operations across parcel, LTL, truckload, premium/white-glove delivery, returns, and reverse logistics while establishing scalable processes, service standards, escalation procedures, and performance dashboards.
• Monitor key logistics KPIs including on-time pickup and delivery, freight cost per shipment, accessorial charges, damage rates, claims, expedited shipments, asset utilization, and customer-impacting service failures.
• Lead the operational execution and continued expansion of internal logistics capabilities, including route planning, asset utilization, staffing, scheduling, process discipline, and performance management.
• Develop reporting that compares internal logistics costs and performance against third-party transportation alternatives to quantify savings, utilization, service levels, asset productivity, and overall ROI.
• Manage an offsite warehouse responsible for approximately $500,000 in high-value demonstration inventory, including receiving, storage, inspection, maintenance, packaging, shipping, returns, reconciliation, and asset tracking.
• Implement inventory-control processes providing real-time or near-real-time visibility into asset location, condition, assignment, shipment history, availability, and return status.
• Establish cycle-counting, reconciliation, loss-prevention, damage-prevention, and inventory-audit procedures to improve accuracy and protect company assets.
• Coordinate premium customer deliveries including scheduling, site readiness, delivery confirmation, placement or installation coordination when applicable, issue escalation, and post-delivery follow-up.
• Oversee the development and performance of future remote logistics hubs while establishing scalable standards for staffing, inventory management, asset controls, facility operations, safety, security, reporting, and customer service.
• Lead, coach, and develop logistics personnel, warehouse employees, drivers, coordinators, and external logistics partners as the organization continues to expand.
• Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, Customer Experience, Finance, Procurement, and leadership to align logistics decisions with customer commitments and broader business objectives.

Qualifications & Skills

• 7+ years of progressively responsible experience within logistics, transportation, warehousing, supply chain, or operations leadership.
• Demonstrated experience managing freight expenditures, transportation P&Ls, logistics budgets, carrier relationships, and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of inbound and outbound transportation including parcel, LTL, truckload, white-glove/premium delivery, and reverse logistics.
• Experience managing warehouse operations, inventory control, asset tracking, and high-value physical inventory.
• Proven ability to develop operational reporting and use data to measure cost, service, utilization, savings opportunities, and return on investment.
• Experience leading internal teams and managing third-party logistics providers across multiple locations.
• Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, ROI evaluation, and P&L accountability.
• Strong negotiation, vendor-management, communication, cross-functional collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to balance strategic leadership with direct, hands-on operational involvement in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working with logistics, inventory, transportation management, warehouse management, ERP, and reporting systems strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Operations, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent relevant professional experience will be considered.
