What does a remote financial planning director do?

A Remote Financial Planning Director oversees the financial planning department while working from a remote location. They develop and implement financial strategies, manage a team of planners, and ensure clients receive sound financial advice tailored to their goals. Their role includes analyzing financial data, setting departmental goals, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining client relationships. To thrive as a Remote Financial Planning Director, you need deep expertise in finance, investment strategies, and regulatory compliance, typically supported by a bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance or related fields and certifications such as CFP or CFA. Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and virtual communication skills help build trust with clients and manage remote teams effectively. These competencies ensure you deliver sound financial advice, maintain regulatory standards, and foster strong client relationships in a remote environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads the annual operating and capital budget process across all NorthStar Care Community entities, programs, and departments in partnership with the AVP Finance, CFO, and Leadership Council.
  • Owns the rolling forecast and the long-range financial plan, including census/volume, payer mix, reimbursement models, staffing, and capital assumptions by service line and entity.

  • Continuously improves financial processes, systems, and planning tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy; directs projects as assigned and adjusts to changes in workload and schedules based on changing departmental and organizational priorities.
  • Leverages artificial intelligence, automation, and advanced analytics tools within approved systems to streamline recurring reporting, improve forecast accuracy, and expand self-service access to financial information across the organization.
  • Serves as the organization's subject-matter expert for financial planning and analysis, setting standards and practices for the function of planning, forecasting, and analytical methods; recruits, leads, and develops analyst staff if and when they are added to the function.
  • Models and promotes knowledge of palliative care and hospice philosophies and articulates and promotes NorthStar Care Community’s vision, mission, and values; upholds the organizational Code of Conduct, policies and procedures and all regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Models the NorthStar standards to care for every person, every time, 100% of the time.

Supervision:    Reports to the Vice President/CFO. This position has no direct reports at this time; the FP&A Manager manages the FP&A function rather than staff.

Working Relationships:
