The position acts as a payroll subject matter expert, collaborating with HR, Finance and Other Departments to resolve issues, maintain regulatory compliance, and enhance processes. This role will be responsible for all quarter end and year end payroll tax activities. Additionally, the role supports broader HR initiatives through data analysis and reporting while maintaining strict confidentiality.

What You Do.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Payroll Related Duties:

  • Audit bi-weekly payroll to ensure accuracy and then obtain final approval before payroll is completed.
  • Own preparation of appropriate payroll related period-end or year-end reports and entries.
  • Review and audit payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies, procedures, and government regulations.
  • Design, document, and review payroll tax processing procedures.
  • Research state and local payroll, including tax rates and filing requirements.
  • Prepare and process higher level payroll transactions related to relocation, service awards, etc.
  • Assist as the backup to the Sr Payroll Administrator, ensuring timely and accurate processing of employee payments.
  • Provides support, guidance, and mentorship to the Sr Payroll Administrator to promote knowledge sharing and team effectiveness.
  • Manage and execute internal and external payroll related audits.
  • Analyze and reconcile payroll data after payroll is processed, identifying, and resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Provide support for payroll-related projects, such as system upgrades, implementation of new processes, and development of policies and procedures.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries as a SME within the HR Service Delivery model related to payroll and ensure that payroll-related issues are resolved in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to payroll and taxation.
  • Collaborate with HR, finance, and other departments to ensure smooth and efficient payroll operations.
  • Generate and distribute payroll reports and other related documents as required.
  • Continuously review and evaluate payroll processes, identifying areas for improvement and recommending solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Generates reports on payroll data. Audits and analyzes data to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure new or changed employee records, pay rates, or related information have been correctly entered to minimize payroll processing errors.

Other Duties:

  • Maintain and safeguard confidentiality of all sensitive and confidential information, files, and records.
  • Develop reports using various systems to analyze trends, optimize costs, as well as employee understanding and acceptance, ensure regulatory compliance and recommend changes to maximize competitive advantage.
  • Position may require travel to other Sargento locations to conduct training, meetings, and/or other HR related duties.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in Webinars and professional organizations.
  • As assigned, perform other duties or special projects necessary to support overall responsibilities of Human Resources Department.


Your Education and Experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, emphasis in Human Resources, Accounting or
    Finance required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive HR or Finance experience needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) a plus.
