Director of Finance
Upstate South Carolina | Contract-to-Hire | Hybrid Flexibility
Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a well-established local government organization in Upstate South Carolina to identify a Director of Finance for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This position offers the opportunity to lead financial operations for a growing municipality while serving as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and elected officials.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting and financial operations
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
  • Prepare financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP and GASB standards
  • Manage general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and utility billing functions
  • Coordinate annual audits and financial compliance activities
  • Administer grant accounting and reporting
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, financial policies, and procedures
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to executive leadership and governing boards
  • Supervise finance and administrative staff members

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting, finance, budgeting, audit, or governmental finance experience
  • Municipal or government accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, budgeting, audit processes, and internal controls
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Experience with Harris SmartFusion or similar municipal ERP systems highly desirable
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
