What is a remote expedition guide?

Remote Expedition Guides are professionals who lead and support groups or individuals on expeditions in remote and often challenging environments. Their responsibilities include planning routes, ensuring safety, providing wilderness survival skills, and sharing knowledge about the local area. These guides are trained to handle emergencies, navigate difficult terrain, and create memorable experiences for participants. They often work in places like mountains, jungles, deserts, or polar regions, and may specialize in activities such as hiking, mountaineering, or wildlife observation.

How does a remote expedition guide coordinate with on-site teams and ensure participant safety from a distance?

As a Remote Expedition Guide, you play a critical role in supporting on-site guides and participants through virtual communication tools, detailed planning, and real-time problem-solving. You'll collaborate closely with field teams via radio, satellite phone, or online platforms to monitor progress, track weather, and address emerging situations. Ensuring safety remotely involves providing thorough pre-expedition briefings, maintaining up-to-date emergency protocols, and being readily available to troubleshoot issues as they arise. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances in remote environments.

This is a part-time position requiring approximately 8–10 hours per week. Candidates must be available during normal business hours for at least 50% of their scheduled weekly hours, with some flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as needed to meet physicians’ needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment for physicians, APPs, and specialty healthcare physicians.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with physicians and advanced practice physicians through proactive outreach, networking, referrals, and ongoing engagement.
  • Source qualified candidates using LinkedIn Recruiter, provider databases, professional organizations, job boards, referrals, social media, and other recruiting platforms.
  • Conduct candidate interviews and assess clinical experience, licensure, credentials, availability, and overall fit.
  • Present opportunities and educate candidates on project requirements, compensation, benefits, and onboarding expectations.
  • Build and maintain active candidate pipelines for current and future staffing needs.
  • Coordinate interviews with candidates, hiring managers, and clients while providing a positive candidate experience.
  • Maintain accurate candidate and recruiting records within the ATS and other recruiting systems.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing priorities and develop effective recruitment strategies.
  • Track recruiting activity, pipeline metrics, and hiring progress and provide regular updates.
  • Stay current on provider compensation trends, market conditions, specialty shortages, and recruitment best practices.
  • Support recruiting initiatives, networking events, and employer branding activities as needed.
  • Ensure recruitment activities comply with company policies, client requirements, and applicable employment laws.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of provider recruitment experience, recruiting physicians and/or advanced practice physicians.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting across multiple provider specialties.
  • Experience recruiting hard-to-fill and specialty positions nationwide.
  • Knowledge of provider credentialing, state licensure, privileging, and onboarding requirements.
  • Established professional network of physicians and advanced practice physicians.
  • Strong passive sourcing, candidate engagement, relationship-building, and networking skills.
  • Excellent interviewing, candidate assessment, negotiation, and closing abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple requisitions and competing priorities.
  • Experience using an Applicant Tracking System (ATS), LinkedIn Recruiter, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
  • Customer-focused and collaborative with a strong team-oriented approach.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience recruiting for federal healthcare contracts, including VA, DoD, IHS, or other government agencies.
  • Experience supporting proposal/RFP recruitment efforts.
  • Experience recruiting physicians for government, commercial, or international healthcare programs.
