The Opportunity

As a Portfolio Intelligence & Execution Lead, you will serve as a strategic leader within our Transformation & Ventures portfolio, responsible for enabling executive visibility, portfolio orchestration, planning excellence, and AI-powered operational capabilities. This role goes beyond traditional program management by combining portfolio strategy execution, intelligence and tooling ownership, cross-functional coordination, executive communications, and automation leadership.

You will act as the architect of the portfolio operating system-ensuring leaders have real-time insight into portfolio health, teams are aligned around priorities, and technology, product, and business partners are connected through a common execution framework.

This role requires a unique blend of portfolio leadership, analytical thinking, communication excellence, technical curiosity, and a builder mindset to transform how portfolio operations are managed and scaled.

Portfolio Intelligence & Tooling Ownership

• Own and continuously evolve the portfolio intelligence ecosystem, including dashboards, reporting frameworks, portfolio metrics, and executive visibility solutions.
• Design, build, and maintain automated portfolio reporting capabilities that provide real-time insight into investment health, delivery progress, dependencies, risks, and outcomes.
• Establish portfolio data standards and governance practices that support informed decision-making across executives, portfolio leaders, and delivery teams.
• Serve as the product owner for portfolio management tools, workflows, and operational capabilities that improve efficiency and transparency.
• Develop performance metrics, dashboards, and management tools that clearly communicate portfolio health and execution performance.

Automation & AI Capability Leadership

• Lead identification, development, and implementation of automation and AI-enabled capabilities that improve portfolio operations and decision-making
• Partner with business and technology stakeholders to deploy AI-powered solutions that support reporting, dependency management, risk identification, planning, and investment analysis.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and agentic AI capabilities to determine opportunities for operational efficiency and business value creation.
• Serve as a champion for practical AI adoption and innovative ways of working across the portfolio organization.

Executive Insights & Portfolio Communications Support

• Develop executive-ready portfolio insights, presentations, and summaries that support leadership decision-making and portfolio governance.

• Translate complex delivery, investment, and risk information into concise, compelling executive narratives for senior leaders that support decision making.
• Partner with portfolio leadership to prepare materials for executive reviews, PI planning outcomes, portfolio health discussions, and strategic update
• Support portfolio communication activities by ensuring reporting, portfolio intelligence, and key messages are accurate, timely, and aligned.

PI Planning & Cross-Team Orchestration

• Lead Program Increment (PI) Planning preparation, facilitation, execution, and follow-through activities across business and technology organizations.
• Drive cross-team dependency management, escalation processes, and execution alignment across multiple investment initiatives and delivery teams.
• Partner with Product, Technology, and Portfolio leaders to align strategic priorities with execution roadmaps and capacity plans.
• Facilitate resolution of risks, blockers, and competing priorities to improve decision velocity and delivery outcomes.
• Establish planning frameworks and operational rhythms that improve transparency, accountability, and execution effectiveness.

Portfolio Execution Leadership

• Lead strategic initiatives and multi-year work efforts that align with organizational priorities and business outcomes.
• Work with executive sponsors and key stakeholders to define objectives, roadmaps, milestones, dependencies, resource requirements, and success measures.
• Monitor portfolio health, identify emerging risks, and recommend actions that optimize investment performance and value delivery.
• Negotiate priorities, trade-offs, and execution approaches across business and technology partners.
• Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance standards.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Tampa, FL, or Chesapeake, VA. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

• Leads the implementation of strategic tasks that align programs with an organization's business strategy and goals.
• Responsible for developing multi-year business plans to deliver business capabilities and define execution approach to achieve business goal while reducing risk and delivering early business value wherever possible.
• Works with program sponsors and cross-functional teams, to evaluate, plan and develop scope, milestone road maps, required resources, work plan, budget, anticipated dependencies, and timing for new programs.
• Prepares reports that provide stakeholders and management with status updates to include identifying risks or issues.
• Ensures all team members understand how to work together, understand interdependencies, and coordinates their efforts to complete program goals.
• Assists in the development of performance metrics, dashboards and management tools that clearly articulate the status of key activities ensuring timely and successful execution.
• Directs analyses, root cause identification and development and recommendation of key work products.
• Identifies potential new program opportunities to deliver integrated solutions that meet multiple business partner needs.
• Defines and maintains multiple program strategies based on business demand and ROI expectations.
• Negotiates agreements, settles disputes equitably and diffuses high tension situations.
• Negotiates program tradeoffs with IT and the business to ensure alignment of demand to capacity.
• Mentors Program Managers in identifying benefits and defining alternatives across departmental programs and across USAA programs.
• Adheres to EPMO processes, procedures, controls, standards, tools, and templates (as required).
• Adheres to governance rigor required for work efforts.
• Drives the adoption and sustainment of changes within the organization in compliance with USAA's Change Management methodology.
• Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.

Experiences that will support your success:

• 8 years of experience in portfolio management, program management, strategic execution, business operations, or related leadership roles.
• 10 years of Property & Casualty experience
• Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
• Expert Experience facilitating planning activities, managing dependencies, and driving execution across multiple teams.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing executive-facing materials, portfolio updates, and strategic summaries.
• Advanced knowledge of portfolio, program, and project management principles and methodologies.
• Experience building or managing portfolio intelligence solutions, dashboards, reporting frameworks, or operational analytics.
• Experience designing automation solutions that improve operational efficiency, reporting, planning, or governance processes.
• Applied experience with AI, generative AI, agentic workflows, or intelligent automation capabilities.
• SAFe, Agile Release Train, PI Planning, or enterprise agile transformation experience
• Experience preparing executive-level presentations, strategic business reviews, and leadership communications.
• Experience working within large-scale transformation or innovation portfolios.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310 - $243,340.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
