What is a remote Excel VBA?

A Remote Excel VBA job involves working from a location outside of a traditional office to develop, maintain, or automate processes using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) in Microsoft Excel. Professionals in this role create custom macros, automate repetitive tasks, and build user-friendly tools within Excel to improve efficiency and accuracy for businesses. Remote Excel VBA jobs require strong programming skills in VBA, deep knowledge of Excel functionalities, and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with teams online.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Excel VBA developer?

To thrive as a Remote Excel VBA Developer, you need advanced Excel skills, strong proficiency in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), and a background in data analysis or related fields. Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, version control systems (like Git), and experience with macros and automation is typically required. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication abilities are essential soft skills. These competencies enable efficient automation of tasks, reliable data management, and successful collaboration in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Excel VBA developers and how can they be addressed?

Remote Excel VBA developers often encounter challenges such as limited direct communication with team members, version control issues when collaborating on shared files, and troubleshooting code without immediate peer support. To address these, it's important to establish clear communication channels, use version control tools like SharePoint or Git for managing macro-enabled workbooks, and maintain thorough documentation of code changes. Regular virtual meetings and screen-sharing sessions can also help in quickly resolving technical issues and staying aligned with project goals.

  • Receive mentorship and actionable feedback to support your career development.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and social events designed for our interns.
  • Build strong technical skills in Excel, R, Python, SQL, VBA, PowerBI, etc.

Individual(s) must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman now or in the future. This includes international students.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with close attention to detail.
  • The ability to work collaboratively on multiple teams simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability and willingness to clearly articulate questions and ideas.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and reliability.
  • Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning about risk, actuarial work, and Milliman’s mission.
  • Self-starter with effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Inspired to contribute to the success of projects and the team.
