Job Summary

Equinix is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to support the reliable operation, capacity growth, and continuous improvement of mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role is focused on operational support, design reviews, and the development of business cases for capacity and efficiency projects, operating at the intersection of engineering, construction, and operations to ensure best-in-class performance, scalability, and safety across our facilities. 

You will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert, reviewing designs against company and industry standards, justifying investment through feasibility studies and business cases, resolving complex operational issues, and influencing engineering standards. You will mentor engineers and drive continuous improvement across regional and global initiatives. 


Responsibilities

Design Review and Project Delivery 

  • Review project designs, including drawings, specifications, and equipment shop drawings, to ensure alignment with industry standards and Equinix objectives

  • Oversee project construction to ensure adherence to design intent, schedule, and quality standards

  • Support commissioning activities, ensuring equipment qualification and documentation accuracy throughout the project lifecycle

  • Provide technical leadership across concurrent initiatives, balancing performance, quality, cost, and timeline expectations

  • Partner cross-functionally with design, construction, and operations teams to deliver scalable solutions

Operational Support & Reliability 

  • Support data center operations as a subject matter expert for electrical systems, conducting root cause analysis on incidents and non-routine failures 

  • Audit existing facilities to ensure compliance with company standards and service-level agreements 

  • Assess and qualify pre-selected facilities against pre-contract requirements, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop contract requirements 

  • Collaborate with regional and global teams to address site incidents and improve processes.

Engineering Standards & Continuous Improvement 

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of engineering standards, policies, and procedure

  • Drive adoption of best practices across projects, operations, and vendor execution 

  • Participate in design reviews, commissioning processes, and engineering summits 

  • Identify opportunities for system-level improvements and future-proofing infrastructure

Vendor & Stakeholder Management 

  • Lead and coordinate external partners, including contractors, consultants, and equipment vendors 

  • Ensure effective contract management, including scope, cost control, and change orders

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including regional leadership and global engineering teams 

  • Communicate clearly with senior stakeholders using structured reporting and executive-level updates

Safety & Compliance 

  • Champion a culture of safety and operational excellence 

  • Ensure adherence to all safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures and regulatory compliance 

  • Evaluate and enforce safe working practices across teams and vendors 

Coaching & Capability Building 

  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and team members 

  • Deliver technical training and share expertise across teams 

  • Contribute to building organizational capability through knowledge sharing and technical leadership

Qualifications

Experience 

  • Typically, 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering, ideally within data centers or mission-critical environments

  • Proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects from design to implementation 

  • Demonstrated experience developing business cases, feasibility studies, or capacity/efficiency analyses to support investment decisions. 

  • Experience reviewing engineering designs, drawings, and specifications against standards. 

  • Experience working across global or highly cross-functional teams 

  • Knowledge of: Power distribution systems, UPS and backup systems, Electrical design and commissioning 

  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities  

  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for mission-critical facilities 

  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and influence without direct authority

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

United States - Dallas Infomart Office DAI : 118,000 - 176,000 USD / Annual

Canada - Toronto Office TRO : 112,000 - 162,000 CAD / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
