What is a Remote Epic Pharmacist?

A Remote Epic Pharmacist is a licensed pharmacist who works off-site to support healthcare organizations using the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. Their responsibilities include managing medication orders, reviewing electronic prescriptions, optimizing EHR workflows, and providing clinical support to medical staff—all remotely. They often help with system configuration, troubleshooting medication-related issues, and ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations, leveraging their expertise in both pharmacy and Epic software.

How does a Remote Epic Pharmacist collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure medication safety and accuracy?

As a Remote Epic Pharmacist, you will work closely with physicians, nurses, and IT professionals through virtual meetings, secure messaging, and electronic documentation within the Epic system. Your primary responsibilities include reviewing medication orders, identifying potential drug interactions, and providing clinical decision support to optimize patient outcomes. While you may not be physically present on-site, strong communication skills and a proactive approach are essential for building effective working relationships and ensuring quick resolution of medication-related issues. You'll also contribute to training staff and updating protocols as Epic workflows evolve, making adaptability a key part of the role.
