Remote Entry Level Mechanical Design Engineer information

What is a remote entry level mechanical design engineer?

Remote entry level mechanical design engineers are professionals who assist in designing and developing mechanical systems, components, or products, typically under the guidance of more experienced engineers. They work from a remote location, using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other collaboration tools to create technical drawings, analyze project requirements, and contribute to engineering solutions. These roles are ideal for recent graduates or individuals starting their career in mechanical engineering, offering opportunities to gain experience while working virtually with engineering teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote entry level mechanical design engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Entry Level Mechanical Design Engineer, you need a solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, and familiarity with CAD software. Proficiency in tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and simulation software, along with a basic understanding of PLM systems, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and self-motivation are soft skills that help you excel in a remote setting and collaborate with diverse teams. These skills and qualities ensure accurate designs, efficient project execution, and successful teamwork despite working remotely.

What are some common challenges faced by remote entry level mechanical design engineers, and how can they be overcome?

Remote entry-level mechanical design engineers often face challenges such as limited face-to-face mentorship, difficulty accessing physical prototypes or testing equipment, and staying aligned with team projects. To overcome these, it's important to proactively communicate with supervisors and peers, actively participate in virtual meetings, and leverage collaboration tools like CAD cloud platforms and project management software. Setting regular check-ins with mentors and seeking feedback can help bridge the remote gap, ensuring growth and integration with the team.

What is the difference between Remote Entry Level Mechanical Design Engineer vs Remote Mechanical Drafter?

AspectRemote Entry Level Mechanical Design EngineerRemote Mechanical Drafter
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related field; some roles may require internship experienceAssociate degree or technical certification in drafting or CAD
Work EnvironmentDesigning and developing mechanical systems, collaborating with engineers and clientsCreating detailed technical drawings and CAD models based on specifications
Employer & Industry UsageManufacturing, aerospace, automotive, product design companiesEngineering firms, manufacturing companies, architectural firms

The Remote Entry Level Mechanical Design Engineer focuses on designing mechanical systems and products, requiring engineering degrees and conceptual skills. In contrast, the Remote Mechanical Drafter primarily creates detailed drawings and CAD models, often with technical certifications. Both roles are essential in manufacturing and engineering industries but differ in responsibilities and required qualifications.

Can remote entry level mechanical design engineers work remotely?

Remote entry level mechanical design engineers can work remotely, especially if their role involves computer-aided design (CAD) software, collaboration tools, and communication platforms. Many companies offer remote positions for entry-level engineers to accommodate flexible work arrangements, though some tasks may require on-site presence for prototyping or testing. The ability to work remotely depends on the company's policies and the specific responsibilities of the role.

Is it possible to work remotely as a remote entry level mechanical design engineer?

Remote work for entry-level mechanical design engineers is increasingly common, especially with the use of CAD software and collaboration tools. Many companies offer remote or hybrid positions, but some roles may require on-site presence for testing or manufacturing coordination.

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced Manufacturing Design Engineers to contribute to an advanced mechanical design and manufacturing project. In this role, you will apply your engineering expertise to help improve next-generation AI systems through high-quality, real-world design input.

You will use FreeCAD or similar parametric CAD platforms to create, document, review, and validate production-ready mechanical components and assemblies. This opportunity is ideal for professionals with strong mechanical design, manufacturing, CAD validation, and technical documentation experience.

No prior AI experience is required—your engineering expertise and domain knowledge are what matter most.

Scope of Work
  1. Create and modify detailed parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical components and assemblies using FreeCAD or comparable CAD software.

  2. Develop comprehensive engineering drawings, including GD&T, dimensional requirements, and tolerance stack-ups, suitable for manufacturing handoff.

  3. Design components for manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, plastics, and injection molding.

  4. Perform CAD validation and quality assurance reviews to verify model accuracy, design intent, and production readiness.

  5. Prepare clear technical documentation, design notes, and assembly instructions for use as high-quality reference materials.

  6. Review and incorporate feedback from technical reviewers to improve CAD models, drawings, and supporting documentation.

  7. Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and manufacturable.

  8. Identify and resolve modeling, dimensional, assembly, and manufacturability issues before production handoff.

Required Skills
  • FreeCAD

  • Parametric CAD Modeling

  • Mechanical Design

  • 3D CAD Modeling

  • Assembly Design

  • Engineering Drawings

  • CAD Validation & Quality Assurance

  • Technical Documentation
