Job description

The Nuclear Company is the fastest growing AI tech-enabled startup in the nuclear and energy space, pioneering a fleet-scale approach to building the next generation of nuclear reactors. Through our design-once, build-many model, we're accelerating the deployment of safe, reliable, and affordable nuclear energy.

We operate with an AI-first mindset.ย Every employee is expected to leverage AI, technology, and the Nuclear Operating System (NOS) as integral components of their role to improve the quality, speed, and impact of their work. We expect every team member to continuously identify opportunities to automate workflows, enhance decision-making, improve processes, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of NOS as a strategic operating capability that enables The Nuclear Company to scale with excellence.

We hire people who are driven by purpose, thrive in ambiguity, and are energized by building what has never been built before.ย Our team combines intellectual curiosity with high agency, embraces candid feedback and continuous learning, and holds themselves and others to exceptional standards. Our values-Transparency, Responsibility, Unity, Scrappiness, and Tenacity-guide how we hire, collaborate, and make decisions every day. They are not words on a wall; they are the standard by which we operate. TRUST is the foundation of our safety culture, fostering intellectual honesty, accountability, and open communication, while our values challenge every team member to execute with urgency, humility, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to our mission.

About the role

The Nuclear Company is hiring aย part-timeย NOS Platform Internย (10 hours per week during the academic year)ย to helpย deliver AI modelsย andย buildย AI/ML products on NOS. NOS is the software platform behind one of the largest nuclear buildouts in the United States.ย The role is remoteย and designed to fit around a full course load; academic performance comes first, andย the scheduleย flexes aroundย exams and coursework.ย

This is a hands-on internshipย reporting to theย Senior Director, NOS. You willย identifyย use casesย for AI deployments across the platform, helpย trainย and deliver AI models against the highest-value ones, and turn what works into products TNC can use internally and offer commercially. You will also advise on hardware options for TNC.ย

You willย work with TNC team members and nuclear industry domain experts to keep the solutions relevant to how plants areย actually designed, built, and run.ย ย

Responsibilities

  • Identifyย use cases. Work with NOS product and business teams to find and document where AIย deployments addย value across the platform and forย customers, andย rank them by value and feasibility.ย
  • Deliverย AIย models and products. Build,ย train,ย and evaluate AI models for the highest-value use cases, andย help turn validated work into products for TNC's own use and for commercial offering.ย
  • Adviseย onย hardware.ย Assess NVIDIAย and other hardwareย options against NOS needs, cost, and the regulatory and security constraints of a nuclearย environment.ย
  • Workย with domain experts. Partner with TNC team members and nuclear industry domain experts to pressure-test use cases and keep solutions relevant, credible, and worth productizing.ย
  • Document and report. Keep clear notes, write up findings, and present results to the team at the end ofย each semester.ย

Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's orย Master'sย program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science,ย Mathematics, Physics,ย or a related technical field.ย
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language, preferably Python.ย
  • Genuine interest inย buildingย AI/MLย models and products, GPUs, and platform or hardware deployment.ย
  • Able to learn quickly, work independently on a defined scope, and ask for help when stuck.ย
  • Able to commit about 10 hours per week remotely during the academic year while keeping up with a full course load, and to flag early when exams or coursework need the time.ย
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to document workย soย others can follow it.ย
  • Authorized to work in the United States. This role supports critical infrastructure and may involve security and export-control requirements.ย
  • Exposure to Palantir Foundry or AIP through coursework, projects, or prior work.ย
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA, or DGX-class systems.ย
  • Coursework or projects with LLMs, RAG, or AI agents.ย
  • Exposure to a major cloud, preferably AWS.ย
  • Interest in nuclear, energy, or other critical-infrastructure sectors.ย
  • Coursework or interest in cybersecurity, data governance, or regulated computing.ย

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation packages
  • 401k with company match
  • Medical, dental, vision plans
  • Generous vacation policy, plus holidays

Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $xxxxx - $xxxxx annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company's discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.ย
