What is a Remote Energy?

A Remote Energy job involves working in the energy sector while operating remotely, often in roles such as renewable energy consulting, energy analysis, or project management. These positions may focus on optimizing energy efficiency, developing sustainable energy solutions, or supporting clean energy initiatives from a remote location. Common industries include solar, wind, and energy policy, with professionals using digital tools to collaborate with teams and clients.

What does a Remote Energy do?

In a Remote Energy role, your daily tasks often involve monitoring real-time data from energy systems, analyzing performance trends, and responding to alerts or anomalies to optimize efficiency. You may collaborate virtually with on-site personnel, engineering teams, and clients to implement or troubleshoot solutions. Regular responsibilities can also include preparing energy reports, recommending improvements, and staying up to date with industry regulations and advancements. The position provides a dynamic mix of independent work and teamwork, using technology to manage energy operations across multiple locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Remote Energy position?

To thrive in a Remote Energy role, you typically need a background in energy management, environmental sciences, or engineering, along with experience in remote monitoring or distributed energy systems. Familiarity with energy management software, SCADA systems, and data analytics tools is often required, as well as relevant certifications such as CEM (Certified Energy Manager). Strong communication, problem-solving, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and independent troubleshooting. These capabilities are essential for optimizing energy use, supporting sustainability goals, and ensuring reliable operations across geographically dispersed sites.

Job description

Work arrangement: Remote / U.S.-based; job-board anchor: Honolulu, HI 96813
Opportunity: Contingent specialist role supporting Axyde's proposal for USTDA 1131PL26R0056
Mobilization: Potential Regional Asia travel within 20 calendar days after Axyde's written notice following award

Role purpose

Design and challenge resilient microgrid and island-power concepts that integrate generation, storage, controls, fuel/logistics, protection and practical operating constraints.

Representative problems this role must solve
  • A remote or island system has high fuel cost and outage risk, but the proposed hybrid configuration lacks credible load, dispatch, resilience or operating evidence.
  • Renewables and storage are modeled without adequate protection, inertia/frequency, black-start, controls, communications or O&M provisions.
  • A project must phase upgrades while maintaining service and preserving options under uncertain demand and logistics.
Responsibilities
  • Assess load, generation, storage, dispatch, reserve, protection, stability, controls, communications, fuel and resilience requirements.
  • Develop or review hybrid-system sizing, operational scenarios, reliability metrics, phased implementation and sensitivity analysis.
  • Define pilot, interconnection, commissioning, performance-test, training, spares and O&M requirements.
  • Translate technical findings into TOR tasks, budgets, schedules, procurement packages and decision gates.
Minimum evidence-based qualifications
  • Direct microgrid, island-grid, hybrid power, remote energy, controls, protection, commissioning or operations experience.
  • Evidence of personally modeling, designing, integrating, commissioning or independently reviewing operating hybrid systems.
  • Experience with Pacific islands, remote communities, military/industrial microgrids or disaster resilience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated senior/expert judgment, normally supported by at least 10 years of directly relevant work and specific project or decision-product evidence.
  • Ability to separate verified facts, assumptions, professional judgments, uncertainties and recommendations in concise written English.
  • U.S. citizen or non-U.S. citizen lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States; written attestation is required before proposal inclusion.
  • Ability to become available for potential Regional Asia travel within 20 calendar days after Axyde's written mobilization notice following contract award, subject to assignment needs and Government direction.
  • Willingness to disclose availability, employment/contract restrictions, confidentiality obligations, conflicts, noncompetes and country/customer limitations.
Evidence to submit
  • Current resume or CV with dates, employer/client, country, project stage, personal role, methods used, decision product and outcome for the most relevant assignments.
  • Two to four representative projects that substantiate the specific expertise claimed; identify what you personally did rather than the team's general scope.
  • Countries/regions worked, languages used professionally, current location, travel limitations and relevant licenses, registrations, certifications, standards or publications.
  • Written permission for Axyde to use and evidence-preservingly reformat the resume for solicitation 1131PL26R0056, subject to final resume review if requested.
Application questions
  • Are you a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident? State one; do not upload identity documents at the application stage.
  • May Axyde use your name and evidence-preservingly tailor/reformat your resume for this specific contingent proposal?
  • Could you become available for required Regional Asia travel within 20 calendar days after Axyde's written mobilization notice following contract award? Identify restrictions.
  • Identify current employment, contractual, confidentiality, noncompete, customer, country or conflict restrictions relevant to this opportunity.
  • Describe a microgrid or island-power project where operational evidence changed the architecture, size or implementation sequence.
  • Identify the modeling/control tools, grid-forming technologies and operating environments you have directly supported.
  • Which modules can you lead: system sizing, protection/stability, controls, storage, resilience, commissioning, O&M or independent review?
Important contingent-opportunity notice
