What is a remote embedded software engineer?

A remote embedded software engineer is a professional who designs, develops, tests, and maintains software that runs on embedded systems, such as microcontrollers or specialized hardware, while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. These engineers typically collaborate with hardware teams, write code for real-time or resource-constrained systems, and use remote tools to debug and deploy software. They may work in industries like automotive, medical devices, consumer electronics, or industrial automation. Remote embedded software engineers rely on communication and project management tools to coordinate with their teams and ensure product quality.

What are some common challenges faced by remote embedded software engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote embedded software engineers often face challenges such as limited access to physical hardware for testing, coordinating with hardware teams across locations, and ensuring clear communication about design specifications. To overcome these, teams typically use simulation tools, remote access labs, and detailed documentation. Regular virtual meetings and collaborative platforms also help maintain alignment and facilitate troubleshooting in distributed environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote embedded software engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Embedded Software Engineer, you need expertise in embedded systems programming (typically in C/C++), hardware interfacing, and a relevant degree in computer engineering or electrical engineering. Familiarity with development tools such as debuggers, version control systems (e.g., Git), and real-time operating systems (RTOS) is commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills help you excel in a distributed team environment. These skills ensure reliable software integration with hardware, efficient collaboration, and successful delivery of complex embedded solutions.

Executive Recruiter

Move

Atlanta, GA • Remote

Full-time

Job description

About Us

We're an embedded talent consultancy on a mission to evolve how businesses recruit. Our clients include some of the most innovative organisations in the world, from Google-backed unicorns to Fintech and SaaS scale-ups reshaping their industries.

Our team spans the UK, US, Spain, South Africa, and Vietnam. We're remote-first, globally minded, and deeply collaborative. We believe hiring should be human-centred, data-informed, and impact-driven, creating better outcomes for companies and candidates alike.

Why This Role Exists

As an Executive Recruiter, you'll own senior leadership hiring on the ground in the US for a global enterprise software company. Embedded directly within the client, you represent their executive hiring team in the US.

This is a high-visibility seat with full ownership of US executive search. You run senior director, VP and EVP searches end to end: sourcing, deep interviewing, complex multi-part offer negotiation, and senior stakeholder management. You report into an experienced, executive-hiring leadership team, and you're supported by established infrastructure of tooling, rewards, and coordination to provide an exceptional experience to Executives.

You operate solo in the US and carry the standard for how executive hiring runs there. This is a contract engagement of twelve months, with genuine intent to convert to permanent or extend if the engagement goes well.

What You'll Do
  • Own a portfolio of executive searches end to end, senior director and above, around seven live roles at a time across product, technology and strategic commercial hiring.
  • Source executive talent directly and build pipelines that reach passive senior leaders, rather than waiting on inbound.
  • Run rigorous executive interviews and assessment yourself, forming your own view on each candidate rather than administering a process someone else designed.
  • Lead complex, multi-part offer negotiations across base, bonus and equity, partnering with the reward team on package design.
  • Represent the executive hiring team on the ground in the US, managing senior stakeholders across regions and time zones and pushing back with evidence when a search needs recalibrating.
  • Work autonomously and make the call in the moment when a hire is on the line.

Requirements

What You'll Bring
  • A track record as a through-and-through executive recruiter, owning senior director, VP and EVP searches. You have owned outcomes, not handed off candidates.
  • Executive gravitas and presence. You hold your own with senior stakeholders, carry a room, and push back credibly at a senior level, with concrete examples to show for it.
  • Enterprise scale and complexity. You understand global organisation and you're used to hiring managers and candidates spread across multiple regions.
  • Deep, advanced interviewing. You personally run rigorous executive assessment and form your own judgement.
  • Comfort with complex offer negotiation across base, bonus and equity.
  • Independence and autonomy. You operate solo, represent the team, and need minimal hand-holding.
  • Confidence and resilience in a high-visibility, high-exposure seat.
Location and Ways of Working
  • US-based in or around Atlanta, able to be onsite regularly. Three days per week is the ideal; two days acceptable for the right person.
This Is Probably Not for You If

You have not focused on purely Exec Search recently in your career. Your strongest work is IC, mid-level or manager hiring rather than senior director and above. Or you've operated only in a single market or a boutique, without enterprise, global scale across multiple regions. This seat is executive search, run solo, at scale. You own it.
