What is a remote embedded engineer?

A Remote Embedded Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and maintains embedded systems, such as microcontrollers or specialized hardware, while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They use programming languages like C or C++ to create software that interacts directly with hardware components. Remote Embedded Engineers often collaborate with teams using online tools, manage tasks independently, and ensure the reliability and efficiency of embedded systems across industries such as automotive, medical devices, or IoT. Their work enables connectivity and functionality in a wide range of smart devices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote embedded engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Embedded Engineer, you need expertise in embedded systems design, proficiency in programming languages like C/C++, and a background in electrical or computer engineering. Familiarity with microcontrollers, real-time operating systems (RTOS), hardware debugging tools, and version control systems such as Git is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills make candidates stand out in this role. These competencies are vital to ensure reliable embedded solutions, efficient project collaboration, and independent productivity in a remote environment.

How do remote embedded engineers typically collaborate with hardware teams when working off-site?

Remote Embedded Engineers often use a combination of version control systems, video conferencing, and remote desktop tools to stay in sync with hardware teams. They may participate in daily standups, share code and test results through collaborative platforms, and sometimes use hardware simulators or remote lab access for testing. Regular documentation and clear communication are key, as are scheduled sync meetings to address integration issues and align project milestones. This structure helps ensure smooth coordination despite physical distance.

The system enables finance-grade standards of lineage, reconciliation, auditability, and explainability, with a named human accountable for every number we ship.

Title:ย  Senior Software and Integrations Engineer

Reports To: ย Engineering Leadership

Location:ย  Remote (In person meetings as needed)

The work spans four domains. We expect deep strength in two or three of them, with willingness to contribute across the others.

Data Engineering

You build and maintain data pipelines feeding reporting and analytics. You implement data models and clean contracts between systems. You work with Databricks and PostgreSQL, handle schema changes, migrations, and backups, and support data quality, reconciliation, and integrity. Finance-grade data means every number traces back to a source and reconciles.

AI

You work with the Anthropic Claude API to build AI features into the platform. You use AI coding tools day to day for building, integrating, debugging, documenting, and testing. You stay current on AI tools and apply them where they help. Automating repetitive work is the baseline; the goal is building AI capabilities that compound the judgment of our finance teams.

Application Development

You deliver full-stack, hands-on work from data model to API to interface. The stack is TypeScript across a React front end and Node.js (Express, Prisma) services, with Python (FastAPI, Azure Functions) for APIs and data pipelines. You translate requirements into technical designs, choose architecture within the standards set by leadership, and own testing: unit, integration, and end-to-end as appropriate.

DevOps

You work with Azure infrastructure (Entra ID, Key Vault), Microsoft Graph and SharePoint integrations, and Redis caching. You follow and contribute to the change-control process: propose, review, track, and release changes per the defined workflow. You troubleshoot and resolve issues across applications, integrations, and infrastructure. You uphold engineering standards: code quality, version control, and documentation.

ย  ย  ย  ย  Take technical ownership of assigned solutions with accountability for quality and delivery, not just individual tasks.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Define solutions: translate requirements into technical designs, approaches, and plans.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Implement full-stack, hands-on delivery from data model to API to interface.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Own testing: unit, integration, and end-to-end; validate against requirements before release.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Design and build integrations connecting systems within the architecture owned by leadership.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Peer-review teammates' work: code reviews, design feedback, and constructive critique.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Contribute to shared tooling, standards, and documentation.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Track work and changes in the team's shared system; keep work visible and documented.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Use AI tools to work efficiently, automating repetitive work so you can focus on solution design and quality.

ย  ย  ย  ย  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar field.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Strong in two or three of the four domains (data engineering, AI, application development, DevOps); comfortable contributing in the others with room to grow.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Demonstrated AI fluency: you work with AI tools in your own workflow today, and you can walk us through how it changes what you produce.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Works effectively with limited supervision; self-directed on execution within direction, architecture, and standards set by leadership.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Strong peer collaborator and reviewer; shares knowledge across the team.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Makes sound technical decisions independently and knows when to escalate.
ย  ย  ย  ย  Raises strategy, budget/cost, and cross-functional decisions to leadership rather than owning them.

Tech Stack

TypeScript across a React front end and Node.js (Express, Prisma) services, Python (FastAPI, Azure Functions) for APIs and data pipelines, Databricks and PostgreSQL with Redis caching, Azure infrastructure (Entra ID, Key Vault), Microsoft Graph and SharePoint integrations, and the Anthropic Claude API for AI features.
