What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Embedded Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Embedded Engineer, you need expertise in embedded systems design, proficiency in programming languages like C/C++, and a background in electrical or computer engineering. Familiarity with microcontrollers, real-time operating systems (RTOS), hardware debugging tools, and version control systems such as Git is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills make candidates stand out in this role. These competencies are vital to ensure reliable embedded solutions, efficient project collaboration, and independent productivity in a remote environment.

How do Remote Embedded Engineers typically collaborate with hardware teams when working off-site?

Remote Embedded Engineers often use a combination of version control systems, video conferencing, and remote desktop tools to stay in sync with hardware teams. They may participate in daily standups, share code and test results through collaborative platforms, and sometimes use hardware simulators or remote lab access for testing. Regular documentation and clear communication are key, as are scheduled sync meetings to address integration issues and align project milestones. This structure helps ensure smooth coordination despite physical distance.

What is a Remote Embedded Engineer?

A Remote Embedded Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and maintains embedded systems, such as microcontrollers or specialized hardware, while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They use programming languages like C or C++ to create software that interacts directly with hardware components. Remote Embedded Engineers often collaborate with teams using online tools, manage tasks independently, and ensure the reliability and efficiency of embedded systems across industries such as automotive, medical devices, or IoT. Their work enables connectivity and functionality in a wide range of smart devices.

Description
Company Overview
At Forum Health, we're committed to transforming healthcare through innovation, personalized medicine, and a collaborative culture that puts people first, our patients and our colleagues. We're a fast-growing organization built on passion, trust, and the power of connection.
Summary
We're looking for a Lead QA Engineer to define and drive quality strategy across a modern cloud-native application stack. This role goes beyond traditional QA-you'll lead the adoption of AI-powered testing approaches, build scalable automation frameworks, and ensure high-quality delivery across a React frontend and Azure-based backend (Azure Functions + PostgreSQL).
You'll work closely with engineering, product, and DevOps to embed intelligent, automated quality practices throughout the SDLC.
Key Responsibilities
QA Strategy & Leadership
  • Define and own the end-to-end QA strategy, standards, and best practices
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a QA team (manual + automation engineers)
  • Champion a 'quality-first' mindset across engineering and product teams
  • Establish metrics, KPIs, and reporting for quality, coverage, and release confidence

AI-Driven Test Automation
  • Design and implement AI-assisted testing frameworks (e.g., self-healing tests, intelligent test generation, flaky test detection)
  • Evaluate and integrate AI tools for test case generation, visual regression, and anomaly detection
  • Leverage LLMs and AI agents to accelerate test creation, maintenance, and debugging
  • Continuously optimize test coverage using data-driven and predictive approaches

Frontend & API Testing
  • Build robust automated test suites for a React-based frontend (unit, integration, E2E)
  • Develop API and contract testing strategies for Azure Functions-based services
  • Ensure strong validation of asynchronous, event-driven, and serverless workflows

Cloud & Infrastructure Quality
  • Validate systems deployed in Azure (App Services, Functions, CI/CD pipelines)
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Ensure performance, scalability, and reliability testing for cloud-native workloads

Data & Backend Validation
  • Validate data integrity and workflows involving PostgreSQL
  • Implement test data management strategies and environment consistency
  • Ensure coverage of edge cases across distributed systems

Tooling & Framework Development
  • Select, build, and maintain modern test frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Jest, Postman/Newman)
  • Introduce scalable test architecture (modular, reusable, maintainable)
  • Drive shift-left testing and continuous testing practices

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years in QA/Software Testing, with 2-3+ years in a leadership role
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Strong experience with test automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience testing React applications
  • Experience testing APIs and backend services (REST, event-driven systems)
  • Solid understanding of cloud environments, preferably Azure
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (JavaScript/TypeScript preferred)
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred / Nice-to-Have
  • Experience implementing AI/ML-driven testing tools or workflows
  • Familiarity with LLMs for test generation, QA copilots, or intelligent debugging
  • Experience with serverless architectures (Azure Functions, AWS Lambda, etc.)
  • Knowledge of performance testing tools (k6, JMeter, Locust)
  • Experience with contract testing (e.g., Pact)
  • Exposure to observability tools (Azure Monitor, App Insights, Datadog, etc.)

What Success Looks Like
  • High-confidence releases with minimal regression issues
  • Significant reduction in manual testing through intelligent automation
  • Faster test creation and maintenance using AI-assisted workflows
  • Stable, scalable, and reliable CI/CD-integrated test suites
  • A proactive QA culture embedded across teams

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: The annual base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $110,000. Annual base salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and or licensures.
