Remote Embedded Engineer information

What is a Remote Embedded Engineer?

A Remote Embedded Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and maintains embedded systems, such as microcontrollers or specialized hardware, while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They use programming languages like C or C++ to create software that interacts directly with hardware components. Remote Embedded Engineers often collaborate with teams using online tools, manage tasks independently, and ensure the reliability and efficiency of embedded systems across industries such as automotive, medical devices, or IoT. Their work enables connectivity and functionality in a wide range of smart devices.

How do Remote Embedded Engineers typically collaborate with hardware teams when working off-site?

Remote Embedded Engineers often use a combination of version control systems, video conferencing, and remote desktop tools to stay in sync with hardware teams. They may participate in daily standups, share code and test results through collaborative platforms, and sometimes use hardware simulators or remote lab access for testing. Regular documentation and clear communication are key, as are scheduled sync meetings to address integration issues and align project milestones. This structure helps ensure smooth coordination despite physical distance.

What is the difference between Remote Embedded Engineer vs Remote Firmware Engineer?

Common Search/ComparisonRemote Embedded EngineerRemote Firmware Engineer

Both roles focus on embedded systems but differ mainly in scope. Remote Embedded Engineers work on both hardware and software integration, while Remote Firmware Engineers specialize in low-level firmware coding. The choice depends on whether the focus is on hardware-software integration or firmware development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Embedded Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Embedded Engineer, you need expertise in embedded systems design, proficiency in programming languages like C/C++, and a background in electrical or computer engineering. Familiarity with microcontrollers, real-time operating systems (RTOS), hardware debugging tools, and version control systems such as Git is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills make candidates stand out in this role. These competencies are vital to ensure reliable embedded solutions, efficient project collaboration, and independent productivity in a remote environment.

  • 8 & 6 FIFO roster - Perth to Pilbara
  • Join the global leader in mining simulation & workforce optimisation
  • 12-month fixed-term contract on a world-class iron ore operation

About Us
Immersive Technologies exists to elevate human performance in mining. For more than 30 years, we have helped the world's largest mining companies improve safety, productivity and workforce capability through a unique integration of People, Process, and Technology.
Our culture is built on four core values:
  • Collaboration - We work together with our colleagues and customers to create positive change.
  • Integrity - We are transparent, ethical, and trustworthy in everything we do.
  • Commitment - We take responsibility and are dedicated to delivering successful outcomes.
  • Innovation - We learn, adapt and continuously improve to deliver real results.

These values guide how we partner with mining operations around the world and how we support the people who work within them.
The Opportunity
In partnership with a global iron ore leader, we are seeking an experienced mining equipment trainer with in-pit operating experience to join our Managed Services team as an embedded resource on site in the Pilbara.
This role places you at the center of the client's workforce development strategy. Using Immersive Technologies' proven methodology, you will help uplift operator performance across safety, maintenance discipline, and production efficiency, while embodying our values in day-to-day work:
How you will make an impact:
  • Collaborate with the site training team to identify workforce needs and deliver targeted development plans.
  • Apply Integrity when assessing operator performance, ensuring accurate, fair and transparent coaching.
  • Use simulation and in-cab coaching to build operator competence, demonstrating Commitment to safe and sustainable skill development.
  • Leverage data, analytics and technology-driven insights - reflecting our value of Innovation - to improve training effectiveness and validate improvement.
  • Build strong relationships across site, becoming a trusted contributor recognised as part of the training team.

You will be supported locally by our Australia Pacific team in Osborne Park and globally by Immersive's network of experienced trainers, consultants, engineers and product specialists.
This 12-month FIFO position includes camp accommodation and requires a passion for developing operators along their learning curve safely, consistently, and sustainably.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
  • Demonstrated experience delivering training in mining operations
  • Strong understanding of production best practice
  • Solid operating background on large mining equipment (excavators, shovels, ancillary)
  • Capability to train operators in Autonomous Haulage Systems
  • High-quality communication and coaching skills
  • A strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement
  • Ability to learn and adopt new technologies
  • A data-driven mindset to identify gaps, track progress, and verify results
  • Act as a cultural ambassador for Collaboration, Integrity, Commitment and Innovation on site

Take the Next Step
If you are passionate about operator development and want to play a meaningful role in shaping workforce capability on a major mining operation, apply now and help us elevate human performance in mining.
