Remote Embedded Controls Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Embedded Controls Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Embedded Controls Engineer, you need expertise in embedded systems design, control theory, and proficiency with programming languages such as C/C++, along with a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with microcontrollers, real-time operating systems (RTOS), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation tools, and often certifications like Certified Embedded Systems Engineer (CESE) are highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and excellent remote communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are crucial for developing reliable embedded control solutions and collaborating effectively within distributed engineering teams.

How do Remote Embedded Controls Engineers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams given the remote work setting?

Remote Embedded Controls Engineers regularly collaborate with hardware, software, and testing teams through virtual meetings, version control platforms, and collaborative documentation tools. Clear communication and proactive status updates are essential, as team members may be distributed across different time zones. Engineers often participate in code reviews, design discussions, and troubleshooting sessions via video calls or messaging platforms, ensuring alignment on project goals and integration timelines. While remote, they are still expected to contribute actively to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.

What are Remote Embedded Controls Engineers?

Remote Embedded Controls Engineers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain embedded control systems for various devices or machinery, while working from a remote location. They work with both hardware and software to ensure systems like automotive controls, industrial machines, or IoT devices function as intended. Their responsibilities include writing firmware, debugging control systems, integrating sensors and actuators, and ensuring real-time performance. Remote positions allow them to collaborate with teams and manage projects using online tools, making this role accessible from anywhere with an internet connection.

What is the difference between Remote Embedded Controls Engineer vs Remote Firmware Engineer?

AspectRemote Embedded Controls EngineerRemote Firmware Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering; experience with embedded systemsBachelor's in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related; proficiency in embedded programming
Work EnvironmentDesigning and testing embedded control systems for machinery and automationDeveloping low-level firmware for devices and hardware components
Industry UsageManufacturing, robotics, industrial automationConsumer electronics, IoT devices, hardware startups

While both roles involve embedded systems, the Remote Embedded Controls Engineer focuses on designing and integrating control systems for machinery, whereas the Remote Firmware Engineer specializes in developing firmware that runs directly on hardware components. The roles often overlap but differ mainly in scope and application.

Job description

Being a Technical Talent Sourcer is an ideal role for someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with smart people, hearing interesting career stories, and occasionally meeting someone who is completely out of their mind (those make the best stories anyway).

In today’s market, finding top technical talent requires creativity, persistence, curiosity, and the ability to think differently than every other recruiter flooding LinkedIn messages. If you get excited about finding great people where others haven’t looked yet, we should probably talk.

Who We Are
At Vertech, not only do we develop world class industrial automation solutions for some of the top US companies, we also strive to be the team of choice for the best and brightest talent. I mean, we call ourselves control freaks for a reason. The passion (and intelligence) our employees have is truly mind-blowing. In turn, we work hard to take care of our own with excellent benefits and pay, personal development, and transparent communication. We also know that you can be great at what you do and still have fun. If that sounds like a good fit, help us bring the next generation of automation solutions to nearly every industry, including manufacturing, food and beverage, renewable energy, water and wastewater, baggage handling and more.
Top Reasons to Work with Us
  • Flexible work schedule with a remote first mentality meaning you can work from home!
  • Weekly communication from management in our internally famous Friday morning meeting
  • Competitive Compensation including a bonus plan
  • No more than a 4 week waiting period on all benefits including the 401k
  • A really rad Christmas Party each year
  • A manager that is cool…most of the time, because no one is perfect
  • A path for growth, a great culture, PTO, AND MORE!
What You Will Be Doing
Build Talent Pipelines

Partner closely with our recruiting team to proactively source and engage technical talent across industrial automation, controls engineering, software development, OT/IT, and related technical disciplines.

Get Creative

Use LinkedIn Recruiter, networking, referrals, industry groups, Boolean searches, and non-traditional sourcing methods to find hard-to-reach talent that other companies are missing.

Learn the Industry

Develop an understanding of technical skill sets including:

  • PLC Programming
  • SCADA/HMI Systems
  • Industrial Automation
  • OT Infrastructure
  • Systems Integration

(You do not need to be an engineer — but you should enjoy learning technical concepts.)

Engage Candidates

Craft thoughtful and personalized outreach messaging that helps candidates understand who Vertech is, what we do, and why our opportunities are worth exploring.

Partner with Recruiters

Work collaboratively with our Talent Acquisition team to support active hiring efforts, build long-term pipelines, and improve sourcing strategies across the company.

Think Strategically

Continuously identify new sourcing methods, tools, and processes that improve pipeline quality and hiring outcomes.

Manage Systems amp; Data

Maintain accurate ATS records, candidate activity, interview stages, and sourcing metrics while helping ensure compliance and reporting accuracy.

What You Need for this Position
  • Bachelors degree in any field
  • 1–3 years of sourcing or recruiting experience
  • Experience sourcing for technical or engineering-related roles preferred
  • Strong internet research and Boolean search skills
  • Experience using LinkedIn Recruiter and modern sourcing tools
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a remote environment
  • Curious mindset with the ability to learn technical concepts quickly
  • Organized and detail-oriented
