Teach For America is a national nonprofit committed to expanding opportunity and excellent education for all kids. Through the Teach For America Ignite program, we offer paid, virtual tutoring opportunities that let college students support K-8 students during the school day. TFA Ignite tutors help students build confidence, motivation, and academic momentum. At the same time, tutors strengthen communication, facilitation, planning, and problem-solving skills while forming consistent, encouraging relationships with students in under-resourced communities. TFA Ignite is offered during both fall and spring semesters.
Position Specific Summary
Location & Schedule:
Fully virtual. You choose a tutoring placement that fits your existing schedule. Sessions are built to work alongside student life.
What You'll Do:
- Tutor and mentor a small group of K-8 students (2-3) each week, supporting them virtually during their school day
- Work ~5 hours per week for a 14-week term each semester
- Weeks 1-2: Complete training and onboarding to prepare for sessions
- Weeks 3-14: Lead weekly tutoring sessions and build consistent relationships
- Help students feel seen, motivated, and more confident in their learning
- Accelerate growth in elementary reading or middle school math
- Receive weekly lesson plans, training, and support from experienced educators

Standard Position Description
The student will provide tutoring services for early childhood literacy and middle school math. Tasks may include: build literacy and math skills with early childhood in small groups or one-on-one, or virtually. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

Required Qualifications
This is an entry level position, little to no experience required, all training will be provided (Students working in an instructional capacity should be very familiar with the subject area in which they are working).
Preferred Qualifications
- 18+ years old
- 2.5+ cumulative undergraduate GPA
- Current undergraduate or graduate student with a Federal Work Study Award
- Must be a citizen, national, or legal resident of the United States, EAD holder, or have DACA status
