Overview: We are seeking a talented and experienced Design Engineer specializing in Instrumentation and Control (I&C) for a contract opportunity with a remote work model. This opening plays a pivotal role in advancing technology for Sodium Fast Reactor systems, focusing on system design, prototype development, integration, and commissioning. You will report directly to the Non-Safety I&C Manager and collaborate with a dedicated team of scientists and engineers, driving the future of Generation IV advanced nuclear reactor technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Design & Integration: Lead the design and development of I&C systems, including the specification and integration of custom instrumentation with advanced control systems.
  • Collaboration: Interface with geographically diverse team members and support both in-house and subcontracted resources to create comprehensive design documentation.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Perform engineering evaluations and ensure adherence to nuclear codes, standards, licensing requirements, and NRC regulations.
  • Technical Documentation: Develop and review critical technical documents, including System Requirements Documents, Interface Control Documents, and Engineering Design Specifications.
  • Drawings & Packages: Create and manage drawing packages for system and component designs, such as P&IDs, control system architecture, and instrument installation diagrams.
  • Supplier Oversight: Provide technical direction and oversight for supplier projects, ensuring deliverables meet quality standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support the adoption of nuclear industry best practices and actively seek opportunities for process enhancements.
  • Interdisciplinary Coordination: Integrate I&C design work with other engineering disciplines and subject matter experts to support project goals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or higher) in Controls, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in instrumentation and controls systems. Higher educational qualifications may count towards experience.
  • Technical Skills: Strong background in instrumentation and controls development, diagnostics, and design of industrial I&C platforms. Familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards is a plus.
  • Nuclear Experience: Previous exposure to nuclear reactor safety systems or instrumentation design preferred but not mandatory.
  • Design Tools: Competence in CAD software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks) is desirable.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation abilities. Must exhibit strong attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence.

Career Development Opportunities: Join our dynamic team and engage in cutting-edge projects that shape the future of energy technology. You will have the opportunity to work alongside industry experts, enhancing your skills while contributing to environmentally sustainable nuclear solutions. Experience a culture of continuous learning and innovation, with pathways to advance your career in the field of nuclear engineering.

Physical Requirements:
