What is a remote EEG job?

A remote electroencephalogram technician, or remote EEG tech, performs EEG tests in the home of a patient rather than in a hospital or clinic setting. The EEG machine measures brain activity, and physicians use this device for diagnosing conditions such as a brain tumor, stroke, brain trauma, or sleep disorders. Your responsibilities as a remote EEG operator involve traveling to the patient’s location and performing equipment setup. Your duties include attaching electrodes to the patient’s head and monitoring readings for approximately 60 minutes. You may take video of the patient and ask them to perform specific movements during the procedure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote EEG technologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote EEG Technologist, you need a solid understanding of neurodiagnostic procedures, anatomy, and physiology, typically supported by an associate's degree in neurodiagnostic technology and certification (such as R.EEG T. from ABRET). Familiarity with EEG recording equipment, remote monitoring software, and health information systems is essential. Attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work independently are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These competencies ensure accurate data collection, patient safety, and reliable support for physicians in diagnosing neurological conditions from a distance.

What are some unique challenges of working as a remote EEG technologist, and how can they be managed?

Working as a Remote EEG Technologist often involves interpreting data and troubleshooting equipment issues without being physically present with the patient or the onsite clinical team. This requires strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with local healthcare staff and ensure accurate data collection. Technologists must also be adept at using remote monitoring software and maintaining patient confidentiality when working from various locations. Staying organized and proactively addressing technical issues are key strategies for success in this role.

Job description

Role Overview:
In this project, you will leverage your expertise in neurology to help fine-tune large language models (like ChatGPT). Your deep understanding of neurological diagnostics, neurodegenerative diseases, and complex neurological care will help ensure AI systems deliver accurate, empathetic, and safe medical reasoning.

What You’ll Do:
  • Design and solve advanced clinical scenarios reflecting neurology practice, from stroke management and seizure disorders to neurodegenerative diseases and neuroimmunology.
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses for diagnostic accuracy, clinical judgment, and evidence-based reasoning in neurological medicine.
  • Identify gaps in AI understanding across neurology subspecialties including movement disorders, neuromuscular disease, and headache medicine.
  • Collaborate with AI researchers and medical peers to improve model quality and reliability.
  • Provide structured, expert feedback that informs next-generation AI development for clinical and educational applications.

Candidate Requirements:
  • MD or equivalent; active practice within the last 3+ years.
  • Board certification or equivalent qualification in Neurology.
  • Strong grasp of neurological medicine — stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neurodegenerative diseases, and neurodiagnostics (EEG, EMG, neuroimaging).
  • Skilled in articulating complex medical reasoning in clear, patient-friendly language.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; familiarity with digital medical tools is a plus.
  • Education from a top-tier institution (e.g., Harvard, Stanford, UCSF, Oxford, etc.).

Offer Details:
  • Commitment: 20–40 hours/week (minimum 4 hours/day, with overlap in PST).
  • Engagement: Contractor/freelancer (no medical or paid leave).
  • Duration: 1 month, with possible extension.
  • Remote: Fully remote, collaborative environment.
