What are Remote DLP Engineers?

Remote DLP (Data Loss Prevention) Engineers are IT professionals who specialize in designing, implementing, and managing DLP solutions to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access or leaks, while working remotely. They configure security tools, monitor data movement, and respond to potential threats to ensure compliance with data protection regulations. By working offsite, they collaborate with teams using digital communication tools and maintain the security posture of their organization's information assets. Their expertise is critical for companies with distributed workforces and cloud-based environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote DLP Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote DLP Engineer, you need deep expertise in data loss prevention strategies, information security principles, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with DLP solutions like Symantec, Forcepoint, or Microsoft Information Protection, as well as relevant certifications such as CISSP or CISM, is commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and clear communication set top candidates apart, especially when collaborating with distributed teams. These skills ensure effective protection of sensitive data, compliance with regulations, and smooth incident response in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote DLP Engineers, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote DLP (Data Loss Prevention) Engineers often face challenges such as ensuring consistent policy enforcement across distributed endpoints and managing security incidents without direct on-premise access. Communication with cross-functional teams, such as IT support and compliance, is key to quickly resolving issues and maintaining data security standards. Leveraging advanced monitoring tools, automating routine tasks, and participating in regular virtual meetings can help address these challenges, ensuring the DLP program remains effective and responsive in a remote environment.

What is the difference between Remote Dlp Engineer vs Data Security Analyst?

Microsoft Purview and Data Protection Engineer
The Opportunity:
Everyone is trying to "harness the cloud", but not everyone knows how to secure it. As a Microsoft Purview Data Protection Engineer, you know how to design, implement, and automate enterprise data-protection capabilities that safely govern sensitive information across Microsoft 365 IL5 and IL6 Flank Speed environments. What if you could use your advanced Purview, Entra ID, and DLP engineering skills to improve secure data-handling and information protection?
As a Microsoft Purview Data Protection Engineer on our team, you'll design, implement, and optimize enterprise information-protection, DLP, insider risk, and lifecycle-governance controls across Microsoft 365. You'll partner with Navy mission stakeholders, cybersecurity teams, records managers, and cloud engineering teams to translate policy into technical enforcement mechanisms. You'll recommend tools, automations, and governance approaches based on your deep experience with Microsoft Purview, Entra ID, and IL5 or IL6 GovCloud requirements.
Your expertise will be vital as you build custom Sensitive Information Types (SITs), engineer retention and records-management policies, create insider-risk detection controls, design label-driven encryption, and implement DLP safeguards across endpoints and collaboration platforms. You'll strengthen your skills in automation, Purview compliance engineering, advanced audit or eDiscovery, and Microsoft Entra Conditional Access and identity governance, while mentoring tomorrow's cloud-security experts. Help us transform and secure our nation's warfighters with cloud technology and advanced Zero Trust capabilities.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 10+ years of experience with the DoD, including the U.S. Navy
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise information protection, data governance, or cloud security with tools such as Microsoft 365 or Purview
  • Experience working with Microsoft Purview
  • Experience designing and deploying sensitivity labels, SITs or EDM, and DLP across M365 workloads and endpoints
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, and Conditional Access
  • Knowledge of eDiscovery, legal holds, advanced search, and audit log investigations
  • Top Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Security+ DoD 8570-compliant Certification

Nice If You Have:
  • 3+ years of experience working with Microsoft Purview
  • Experience with retention of records, eDiscovery, audit, and insider risk in regulated environments
  • Experience with PowerShell for configuration, reporting, and automation beyond GUI capabilities
  • Experience building or managing the Microsoft Purview Data Map and scanning multi-cloud or on-prem sources
  • Experience governing generative AI with Purview controls, including restricted access, label-driven policies, and data boundary
  • Microsoft Certifications such as SC-400, SC-200, SC-100, MS-101, and AZ-50 Certifications

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Top Secret clearance is required.
