Courseware Development and Training Specialist
The Opportunity:
The Air Force flying training community seeks to modernize or completely revamp its curricula to meet 21st Century challenges. Traditional programs are yielding to the development of more efficient programs seeking to modulate resource expenditure while at the same time delivering precise and transferable training that continues to add capability along a continuum of training. Additionally, modern training generates enormous amounts of information from syllabi and lesson plans to learning objectives, tasks, assessments, and performance data. Yet these artifacts often exist in separate systems, making it difficult to understand how training aligns to mission requirements or where improvements should be made.
As a Training Development and Competency Mapping Specialist, you will design, collaborate, and develop effective and precisely applicable courseware. You will begin to help transform these disconnected training artifacts into a structured, connected representation of the training system. Working alongside aviation Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), other instructional designers, and data analysts, you'll identify and document relationships among training events, learning objectives, knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), tasks, assessments, and competencies.
Your work will support evidence-based decisions that improve curriculum design, identify training gaps and redundancies, evaluate proposed program changes, and strengthen readiness across the aviation training enterprise. This role combines analytical thinking, instructional systems design, collaboration with technical experts, and data organization. You'll learn how complex training systems are designed, gain exposure to competency-based training methodologies, and contribute directly to initiatives that support national security.
If you're naturally curious, enjoy solving complex problems, and like bringing structure to large amounts of information, you'll find this work both challenging and rewarding.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 7+ years of experience with the Department of Defense in instructional design, curriculum development, or training development
  • Experience interpreting and organizing complex technical or instructional documentation
  • Experience collaborating with SMEs to gather, validate, and refine information
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, identify patterns, relationships, inconsistencies, and gaps across large sets of information
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience working with and developing competency frameworks, conducting gap analyses, and developing strategies to bridge competency gaps
  • Experience as a military instructor
  • Experience with U.S. Air Force aviation training programs
  • Experience with U.S. Air Force Remotely Piloted Aircraft training
  • Possession of strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Secret clearance
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
