What Are Remote DevOps Jobs?

Remote DevOps jobs focus on combining software development and information technology operations. In these careers, your duties include engineering software and systems to meet the specific needs of a business or enterprise. You may perform tasks such as software coding and the development of network resources to allow for easy updates and the addition of new technology. As a remote developer, you work from home or another remote location. DevOps job roles include DevOps architect, DevOps engineer, software and system tester, and an integration specialist, whose responsibilities involve working to integrate new software and applications seamlessly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote DevOps Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote DevOps Engineer, you need strong skills in systems administration, cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, or GCP), scripting, and CI/CD pipelines, typically backed by a degree in computer science or related certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer. Familiarity with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and infrastructure-as-code systems (e.g., Terraform or Ansible) is standard in this role. Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills are crucial for collaborating effectively across distributed teams. These abilities enable seamless deployment, scalability, and reliability of systems, ensuring smooth operations in a remote work environment.

How do remote DevOps professionals typically collaborate with development and operations teams across different time zones?

Remote DevOps professionals often use a combination of collaboration tools such as Slack, Jira, and Zoom to stay connected with development and operations teams. They rely heavily on clear documentation, version control systems, and automated workflows to ensure smooth handoffs and consistent processes across time zones. Regular stand-up meetings, asynchronous communication, and shared dashboards help maintain alignment on priorities and progress, making it possible to address incidents and deploy updates efficiently despite geographical differences.

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled DevOps Engineer to serve on our DevOps team. This role is ideal for a seasoned DevOps professional who excels in fast-paced, high-stakes environments, has deep expertise in cloud-native infrastructure at scale, and can both execute hands-on work as well as guide other engineers. Youll help drive modern DevOps practices, ensure system reliability, and scale enterprise-level infrastructure while partnering closely with engineering and security teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the Sr. DevOps Engineer, operating independently and making informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Help develop DevOps team members, ensuring best practices in automation, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Architect, implement, and manage infrastructure in AWS leveraging modern cloud-native patterns.
  • Own and expand existing infrastructure-as-code, ensuring repeatability and compliance using technologies such as Terraform and ansible.
  • Manage and optimize multiple Kubernetes clusters for enterprise-scale applications.
  • Oversee observability and monitoring solutions using Datadog (APM, Infrastructure Monitoring, etc.) and other related tools.
  • Partner with Engineering and QA teams to streamline CI/CD pipelines and release management.
  • Write clear, actionable Jira tickets and maintain strong documentation to drive execution across teams.
  • Drive modern DevOps and SRE practices (e.g., GitOps, immutable infra, auto-scaling, blue/green & canary deployments).
  • Support disaster recovery planning, capacity management, and compliance requirements (PCI DSS, SOC 2).

Qualifications

  • 58+ years of professional experience in DevOps, SRE, or Infrastructure Engineering.
  • Strong expertise with AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, IAM, VPC, Lambda, Route53, etc.).
  • Proven experience with Terraform in production at scale.
  • Solid hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS preferred) and container orchestration patterns.
  • Experience with Datadog or equivalent APM/observability stacks (Prometheus, New Relic, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to remain effective and decisive during incidents, outages, and critical releases.
  • Strong technical writing and organizational skills (clear Jira tickets, runbooks, postmortems).
  • Understanding of modern DevOps/SRE principles: CI/CD, infrastructure immutability, monitoring-first culture, GitOps, automated testing, secrets management.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Prior experience mentoring junior DevOps engineers.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid architectures.
  • Exposure to database performance and scaling (MySQL, Postgres, NoSQL).
  • Knowledge of security automation (Vault, AWS Security Hub, etc.).
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, SOC 2).

BENEFITS:

We offer

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Voluntary benefits
  • Generous PTO
  • Paid parental leave (following 12 months of continuous employment/US only)
  • 401K Match / RRSP Match
  • $200 event reimbursement
  • Access to learning & development opportunities through our LMS platform and peer-to-peer LeapU program
