Job description

Network Engineer

Vantage Point Solutions is a growing, technology-driven consulting and engineering firm serving broadband, power, and financial industries nationwide. We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join our team. This full-time position, available remote or in-office, supports internet service providers and broadband clients across the country and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced consulting environment, enjoys solving complex network challenges, and is passionate about delivering well-designed, reliable network solutions.

Position Overview:

As a Network Engineer, you will serve as a technical lead and trusted advisor on network design and implementation projects for clients in the service provider space. This role is centered on engineering outcomes such as assessments, architecture, deployments, migrations, upgrades, and network modernization initiatives across ISP and broadband environments. While some advanced operational support and escalation assistance may be required, the primary focus of this position is project-based engineering work rather than day-to-day support.

This role is well-suited for a mid-level engineer with strong experience in IP routing, Ethernet switching, broadband access technologies, and service provider networking best practices. The successful candidate will be comfortable leading technical discovery, building implementation plans and design documentation, executing deployments and cutovers, communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and managing multiple client engagements in a deadline-driven consulting environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and optimize ISP and broadband network solutions across core, aggregation, access, transport, and customer edge environments.
  • Lead network engineering projects including new deployments, upgrades, migrations, service turn-ups, hardware refreshes, and architecture modernization initiatives.
  • Engage directly with clients to understand business objectives, technical requirements, operational constraints, and growth plans, then translate those needs into practical network solutions.
  • Perform discovery, assessments, and technical reviews of existing environments to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for improved performance, resiliency, scalability, and security.
  • Develop high-level and low-level designs, statements of work support, implementation plans, Method of Procedure (MOP) documents, rollback plans, test plans, and client-ready technical documentation.
  • Configure and deploy routers, switches, optical line systems, broadband access platforms, subscriber delivery systems, and related infrastructure across multi-vendor environments.
  • Engineer and troubleshoot technologies such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, EVPN, VLANs, QoS, ACLs, IPv4/IPv6, redundancy protocols, and broadband delivery platforms.
  • Plan and execute maintenance windows, software upgrades, cutovers, intrusive changes, and post-change validation activities with a strong focus on minimizing client impact.
  • Provide technical leadership during implementations, coordinate dependencies across internal teams and client stakeholders, and help drive projects to successful completion.
  • Evaluate hardware and software solutions and provide clients with technical recommendations, tradeoff analysis, budgeting input, and implementation guidance.
  • Collaborate with project managers, network operations, cybersecurity teams, vendors, field resources, and client contacts to ensure high-quality delivery across consulting and managed services engagements.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and escalation support for complex service-affecting issues, post-deployment stabilization, and critical incidents when needed.
  • Analyze alarms, logs, utilization trends, and performance data to identify root causes, support capacity planning, and improve network reliability.
  • Maintain accurate diagrams, standards, configuration records, inventories, and change documentation for both internal teams and client handoff.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, process improvement, automation, and repeatable delivery practices that improve consistency and quality across projects.
  • Participate in the weekly after-hours on-call rotation and support NOC escalation.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, Ethernet, subnetting, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and core network security principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, troubleshoot, and document production network environments.
  • Hands-on experience with routing and switching protocols and technologies such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, VxLAN, MPLS, EVPN, QoS, ACLs, VRRP/HSRP, and IPv4/IPv6.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a client-facing MSP, consulting, or professional services environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex issues and develop practical, business-aware solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience creating network diagrams, implementation plans, configuration standards, and technical documentation suitable for both internal and client use.
  • Experience working within structured change management, incident management, and project delivery processes.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to support after-hours maintenance windows and occasional urgent escalations when required.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed, with no limitations on driving or flying.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer information systems, computer science, information technology, engineering, telecommunications, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may also be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in network engineering, telecommunications, internet service provider, broadband, MSP, consulting, or related technical roles.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIS, , JNCIP, or service provider-focused certifications are preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with platforms from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Nokia, Ribbon, Ciena, Adtran, Calix, or similar.
  • Experience with broadband and service provider technologies including GPON, Active Ethernet, OLT platforms, subscriber management concepts, transport networking, and carrier or regional ISP environments.
  • Experience designing or supporting dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring, logging, documentation, and ticketing platforms used in engineering and managed services environments.
  • Experience developing customer-facing design documents, implementation runbooks, migration plans, and post-project handoff documentation.
  • Exposure to automation, scripting, or infrastructure-as-code tools such as Python, Ansible, or similar is a plus.
  • Experience supporting network security design considerations such as segmentation, edge filtering, and secure remote access is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

This position offers a salary range of $85,000 to $100,000 along with a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k), and more. Compensation will be based on factors such as experience, technical skills, certifications, and overall qualifications.
