What is a remote developer?

Remote developers are software professionals who work from locations outside of a traditional office environment, often from home or co-working spaces. They use digital tools to collaborate with team members and clients, writing code, fixing bugs, and participating in project meetings online. Remote developers enjoy flexibility in their work location and hours, but they also need strong communication skills and self-motivation. This role is popular in the tech industry, enabling companies to access talent from around the world.

What does a remote developer do?

Remote developers, or remote software developers, design and create computer software programs and applications for their employer or client. Unlike in-house developers, remote developers work from home or another location outside of the office. As a remote developer, you discuss the kind of program you need to create, making sure to clarify with your department or with your client what they need in their application. You may develop an entirely new program or improve an existing one. Remote developers are responsible for a program’s overall function, and they design precise workflow charts that explain to programmers what code is needed for different aspects of the program. Remote developers may also design tests and protocols for the QA department to follow when they are testing the application.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Developer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with software development methodologies, often supported by a relevant degree or coding certifications. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, remote collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Jira), and cloud-based development environments is typically required. Excellent self-motivation, time management, and clear written communication set standout remote developers apart. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality code, collaborating effectively across distributed teams, and maintaining productivity independently.

What are some common challenges faced by remote developers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote developers often encounter challenges such as communication barriers, feelings of isolation, and managing work-life balance due to the lack of physical boundaries between home and work. To overcome these, it's important to establish clear communication channels with your team, set regular check-ins, and use collaboration tools effectively. Additionally, creating a dedicated workspace and setting defined work hours can help maintain productivity and personal well-being. Many companies also support remote developers through virtual team-building activities and flexible schedules.

Job description

Company Overview

Docusign brings agreements to life. Over 1.5 million customers and more than a billion people in over 180 countries use Docusign solutions to accelerate the process of doing business and simplify people's lives. With intelligent agreement management, Docusign unleashes business-critical data that is trapped inside of documents. Until now, these were disconnected from business systems of record, costing businesses time, money, and opportunity. Using Docusign's Intelligent Agreement Management platform, companies can create, commit, and manage agreements with solutions created by the #1 company in e-signature and contract lifecycle management (CLM).

What you'll do

As an AI Agentic Engineer on the Platform AI Engineering team, you will drive the next wave of automation in IT operations by designing and deploying agentic AI solutions that proactively resolve issues, reduce operational burden, and enhance security.

Your mission is to eliminate EUS operations tickets through autonomous agents that anticipate, detect, and resolve user and system challenges before they require human intervention. You will partner across IT, security, and business teams to build secure, compliant, and scalable AI-driven workflows that improve employee experience and safeguard our IT enterprise environment.

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Manager, Cloud Apps.

Responsibility

  • Develop and deploy agentic AI solutions that autonomously resolve common EUS operations tickets (service requests, incidents, and routine tasks) using frameworks like Crew AI or Vertex AI
  • Integrate AI agents with SaaS and IT platforms to drive self-healing and auto-remediation capabilities
  • Embed security-first principles into every agentic workflow to ensure compliance and protection of corporate assets
  • Monitor agent performance, impact, and coverage-driving continuous improvement and expansion of automation
  • Partner with EUS Ops, Security, and IT platform owners to identify high-value automation opportunities
  • Document agent design, workflows, security considerations, and lifecycle management
  • Stay current with GenAI, agent frameworks, and IT automation trends to continuously expand adoption
  • Contribute to the broader AI service ownership strategy, ensuring scalability, reliability, and secure integration across the IT ecosystem
Job Designation

  • Experience embedding security and compliance controls into AI or automation solutions
  • Strong understanding of IT operations, incident management, and ticketing systems
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Ability to design and implement Conversational AI chatbots and virtual assistants to deliver intuitive, human-like IT support and streamline end-user interactions
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

Preferred

  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks and multi-agent orchestration platforms
  • Hands on experience on one or more scripting/programming languages (e.g., Python, Java)
  • Experience in developing, designing or integrating front-end AI application entry points (e.g., chatbots, copilots, self-service portals) for end-user interaction
  • Ability to present proof of concepts effectively: Adequate frontend, backend, and DevOps experience to rapidly build and demonstrate agentic AI solutions
  • Familiarity with zero-trust and security monitoring in SaaS and IT environments
  • Track record of reducing operational burden via automation or agentic AI
  • Certifications in AI, cloud computing, or ITSM platforms
