Remote Detection Engineer information

What are Remote Detection Engineers?

Remote Detection Engineers are professionals who use technology and specialized tools to identify, monitor, and analyze data or threats from a distance, often in the realm of cybersecurity or environmental monitoring. They typically work with remote sensing equipment, network security systems, or other detection technologies to spot issues without needing to be physically present. Their role is critical for organizations that require constant vigilance over digital assets or remote environments. In cybersecurity, for example, they help detect and respond to threats to protect sensitive information. Remote Detection Engineers often collaborate with IT, security, or scientific teams depending on their industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Detection Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Detection Engineer, you need a strong background in cybersecurity, threat detection, and incident response, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with SIEM platforms (like Splunk or ELK Stack), EDR tools, and certifications such as CISSP or GIAC are commonly required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and clear communication are critical soft skills for interpreting threats and collaborating with distributed teams. These skills ensure timely identification and mitigation of security threats, protecting organizational assets in a remote work environment.

How does a Remote Detection Engineer typically collaborate with other cybersecurity teams to improve threat detection?

As a Remote Detection Engineer, you will regularly collaborate with Security Operations Center (SOC) analysts, incident responders, and threat intelligence teams. Your main role involves developing and fine-tuning detection logic, which often requires direct feedback from analysts handling alerts and incidents. You may participate in virtual meetings, conduct knowledge-sharing sessions, and provide technical guidance to ensure detections are actionable and relevant. This cross-team collaboration is essential for refining detection strategies, addressing false positives, and staying ahead of emerging threats.

Job description

Are you a technically driven security expert who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys solving complex architecture challenges, and takes extreme ownership of outcomes? Join our established team of Security Architects to help shape the security posture of enterprise applications and infrastructure across onprem, public cloud, and emerging AI platforms. Your work will directly influence the security of systems that support critical business operations and customer experiences.

We are looking for someone who brings deep technical expertise, strong architectural instincts, and the passion to partner closely with Enterprise Architecture and engineering teams. You will define security requirements for business application implementations, perform threat modeling, and design security controls that materially reduce enterprise risk. If you enjoy context switching, diving into unfamiliar technologies, and influencing secure design from the ground up, this role is for you.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement security architecture strategies and roadmaps aligned with business goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects and engineering teams to embed security-by-design into application, infrastructure, cloud, and AI initiatives.
  • Perform threat modeling on new and existing systems, identifying risks and designing pragmatic, effective security controls.
  • Define security requirements for business application implementations and major technology changes across the enterprise.
  • Architect and validate enterprise security controls including network security, IAM, encryption, monitoring, and cloud-native security services.
  • Conduct security architecture reviews and risk assessments, identifying gaps and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate and apply emerging security technologies to strengthen the organization's security posture.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent security frameworks, standards, and reference architectures.
  • Contribute to incident response as a subject matter expert, advising on containment and long-term remediation strategies.
  • Create and maintain core security architectural artifacts including threat models, security solution diagrams, data flow diagrams, security control mappings, reference patterns, and system security plans to guide consistent and secure solution delivery.

Qualifications
Technical background

  • 10+ years of experience in information security, architecture, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred.

Professional attributes

  • Ability to navigate a dynamic environment with frequent context switching.
  • Demonstrated ability to own problems end-to-end and drive outcomes without needing direction.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Candidates must have experience in at least several of the following domains. The most successful individuals bring solid depth in multiple areas along with a willingness to build proficiency across the rest. Experience may include:

  • Network security and segmentation
  • Identity and access management and privileged access design
  • Cloud security architecture (Azure preferred or AWS)
  • AI and machine learning security practices
  • Application and API security
  • Data protection, encryption, tokenization, and key management
  • Container and Kubernetes security
  • Zero Trust architecture patterns
  • Security monitoring, detection engineering, and incident response
  • Vulnerability and risk management
  • Security automation, DevSecOps, and CI/CD pipeline security

Preferred Certifications

  • CISSP
  • CISM

Location

  • Hybrid - defined as working three or more days per week in the office if the employee's residence is within 50 miles of Westfield Center, OH; or Remote - if the employee resides more than 50 miles from Westfield Center, OH
