Job description

Position Overview

The Senior Project Engineer serves as the technical lead for assigned projects, ensuring engineering deliverables are accurate, efficient, compliant, and aligned with EAE USA standards. This role provides technical leadership and mentorship to Project Engineers and Junior Project Engineers while maintaining ownership of complex engineering activities from project pursuit through completion.

The Senior Project Engineer acts as the primary engineering resource for major or technically complex projects and works closely with Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Field Service, Supply Chain, HQ Engineering, and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality electrical power distribution solutions on time and within project requirements.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership
  • Serve as the project-level technical lead for assigned Capital and Enterprise projects.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to Project Engineers and Junior Project Engineers.
  • Review drawings, layouts, BIM models, BOMs, and engineering documentation for technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable NEC, UL, ETL, IEC, customer specifications, and EAE engineering standards.
  • Lead resolution of complex technical issues and promote engineering best practices and standardization.
Pre-Quotation Engineering
  • Support project pursuits, proposal development, and technical evaluations.
  • Review specifications, one-line diagrams, BIM models, and customer requirements.
  • Develop conceptual layouts, preliminary designs, equipment selections, BOMs, and product configurations.
  • Provide technical clarification to Sales and participate in customer meetings as needed.
Project Engineering Execution
  • Maintain technical ownership of assigned projects from order entry through closeout.
  • Develop and review engineering drawings, layouts, BIM models, BOMs, and project design packages.
  • Coordinate customer markups, revisions, and technical changes.
  • Maintain alignment between customer requirements, drawings, BOMs, equipment selections, manufacturing documentation, approved changes, and field conditions.
  • Identify and manage technical risks related to system configuration, busway routing, constructability, equipment selection, manufacturing, and installation.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with Manufacturing, Procurement, Logistics, Field Service, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support production by resolving project-specific engineering questions and design issues.
  • Escalate requirements that fall outside established product designs, ratings, certifications, or approved configurations to HQ/Product Engineering.
Design Review & Quality Assurance
  • Conduct formal design reviews prior to release for manufacturing.
  • Approve project-level engineering changes that remain within established product standards and configuration limits.
  • Evaluate the impact of changes on drawings, BIM models, BOMs, manufacturing, schedule, installation, compliance, and previously released documentation.
  • Verify that technical requirements, interfaces, customer comments, and engineering changes are resolved before release.
  • Support Quality Control investigations, nonconformance reviews, corrective actions, and warranty evaluations.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce errors, minimize rework, and improve engineering efficiency.
Customer & Field Support
  • Serve as the primary engineering contact for assigned projects.
  • Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, BIM coordination sessions, and technical discussions.
  • Provide timely technical responses to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support field installation, measurements, field-fit components, and engineered modifications as required.
  • Assist contractors, installers, and Field Service Engineers with technical questions.
  • Support customer training related to EAE products and installation requirements.
Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement
  • Mentor and develop Project Engineers and Junior Project Engineers.
  • Review engineering work prior to submission or release.
  • Share lessons learned, technical knowledge, and engineering best practices.
  • Support onboarding and development of new engineers.
  • Assist in improving engineering procedures, standards, templates, SOPs, and documentation practices.

Decision-Making Authority

The Senior Project Engineer is expected to:

  • Make independent project-level technical decisions within approved engineering standards, product configurations, applicable codes, and customer requirements.
  • Serve as the senior project-level engineering authority for assigned projects.
  • Approve engineering deliverables and design packages for technical accuracy and readiness for manufacturing.
  • Authorize engineering packages for manufacturing release after required reviews are completed.
  • Approve project-level engineering changes within established product designs, ratings, certifications, and configuration limits.
  • Recommend solutions to complex technical and customer challenges.
  • Escalate significant technical, commercial, compliance, certification, or schedule risks to the appropriate engineering or project leadership.
  • Escalate proposed changes affecting controlled product designs, ratings, certifications, components, or manufacturing standards to HQ/Product Engineering.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Associate degree with equivalent professional experience; or 5+ years of electrical design experience.
  • 5–8+ years of engineering experience in electrical power distribution, mission-critical infrastructure, electrical equipment manufacturing, consulting engineering, or a related industry.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, BIM coordination, or equivalent design software.
  • Strong understanding of low-voltage power distribution systems, busway systems, switchgear, and related electrical equipment.
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL, ETL, IEC, or other applicable industry standards.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technically complex engineering projects.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting hyperscale data centers, industrial, commercial, healthcare, mission-critical infrastructure, or similar electrical design projects.
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Autodesk Forma, BIM 360, or similar collaboration platforms.
  • Experience supporting engineered-to-order or project-based electrical equipment.
  • Experience with engineering change management, manufacturing release, design standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
