What is a remote Databricks engineer?

Remote Databricks jobs are positions that involve working with the Databricks data analytics platform from a location outside of a traditional office, typically from home or another remote setting. These roles often focus on developing data pipelines, analyzing big data, building machine learning models, or managing cloud infrastructure using Databricks. Employees use collaboration tools and cloud-based environments to connect with their teams and access the Databricks platform securely. Remote Databricks jobs may be available for data engineers, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and DevOps professionals. The flexibility of remote work allows professionals to collaborate with global teams while leveraging Databricks’ powerful data processing and analytics capabilities.

How does a remote Databricks engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams?

As a remote Databricks engineer, you will frequently work with data scientists, analysts, and other engineers through virtual collaboration tools such as Slack, Jira, and Zoom. Regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and shared documentation platforms help maintain alignment across distributed teams. You'll often contribute to shared Databricks notebooks and participate in sprint planning to ensure data pipelines and analytics workflows meet business requirements. Effective communication and proactive documentation are key to successful remote collaboration in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Databricks engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Databricks Engineer, you need a strong background in data engineering, cloud computing (especially Azure or AWS), and proficiency in languages like Python or Scala, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with Databricks platform tools, Spark, SQL, and relevant certifications such as Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate are typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and self-motivation skills help you excel in remote and collaborative data-driven environments. These skills are essential for efficiently designing scalable data solutions and collaborating virtually to drive business value.

Job description

Be Part Of A High-Performing Team:

Join a technology organization supporting data and analytics platforms within a global financial services environment. This team is focused on building secure, scalable cloud infrastructure that enables application teams to use Azure and Databricks effectively. The environment combines hands-on technical support, infrastructure automation, platform governance, and close collaboration across engineering and application teams.

What's In Store For You:

  • Engagement: W2 only (no C2C/1099).
  • Fully remote work arrangement aligned primarily with Eastern Time business hours.
  • Opportunity to deepen experience across Azure, Databricks, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and enterprise data-platform operations.
  • Exposure to cloud resource provisioning, Databricks governance, application onboarding, and process automation.
  • Long-term contract opportunity supporting a highly visible enterprise technology team.

How You Will Make An Impact:

  • Provide first-level technical support to application teams through ServiceNow, resolving common Azure and Databricks platform requests.
  • Gather technical requirements and guide application teams through the onboarding of new Data Landing Zones.
  • Execute pipelines, scripts, and Infrastructure as Code deployments to provision or modify Azure and Databricks resources.
  • Support the deployment of frequently requested cloud services using standardized, repeatable processes.
  • Automate recurring support activities to improve response times, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot access, permissions, authentication, deployment, and platform configuration issues.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation covering support procedures, workflows, and onboarding processes.
  • Partner with application developers, cloud engineers, and platform stakeholders to resolve requests and improve the user experience.

Do you bring proven success in Azure Databricks platform support?

  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience supporting or administering Databricks environments.
  • 1–3 years of experience working with Azure Data Factory.
  • Previous experience in application support, production support, cloud operations, or technical platform support.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and familiarity with AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience using Git-based source-control platforms such as GitHub, GitLab, or Azure Repos.
  • Ability to execute and troubleshoot deployment pipelines, scripts, and cloud provisioning workflows.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather requirements and translate them into technical actions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, particularly when supporting application teams and documenting procedures.
  • Experience with Databricks Unity Catalog, role-based access control, authentication methods, or Delta Sharing is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or AWS CDK is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions is preferred.
  • Scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, or Bash is preferred.
