The University of Idaho's Office of Information Technology is hiring a Technical Product Manager to lead a multi-year data modernization initiative. This role owns the work from the ground up, shaping architecture, governance, and adoption strategy for a scalable, governed, analytics-ready data platform. You will have direct visibility into executive leadership, real influence over institutional data strategy, and the opportunity to see your decisions drive outcomes in research, student success, and operations. Position Overview
This position coordinates the planning, design, and development of software applications. This position is responsible for the success of a product or family of products. This position will work closely with cross-functional business leaders, peers and technology leadership to ensure systems are positioned for the growth of the university. This includes performing or supervising analysis, design, development, and testing, to ensure the deployment of reliable, secure, and scalable business-critical applications and platforms. The Technical Product Manager works in a collaborative environment with business and technology owners and fosters a culture of teamwork and support across the university and within the technology team.
This position is a blend of product and project leadership and will require partnering with cross functional teams to achieve high performance levels with application services and support the alignment of team activities with the university's business needs.
Duties may include:
  • Understand and represent user needs
  • Define a vision and roadmap for a product
  • Align stakeholders around the vision for the product
  • Prioritize product features and capabilities
  • Manage a product backlog
  • Oversee development stages and evaluate progress
  • Serve as a liaison between department stakeholders and the Office of Information Technology development team
  • Collaborate across teams to empower independent decision-making
  • Administer applications
  • Provide high level reporting to departments across the university

Required Experience
  • Three years working with software applications in a technical or functional support role
  • Prioritizing work and ensuring projects and workloads are completed on time

    • ERP data structures in student, HR, or finance domains (Banner/Ellucian preferred)
    • BI platform connectivity and supporting analytical consumers (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
    • Data ingestion patterns, pipeline tooling, and warehousing concepts
    • Higher education technology environments, shared governance, and constituent-sensitive operations
    • Translating between technical platform capabilities and non-technical institutional audiences
