Can I get a data scientist job with no experience?

Entry-level data scientist positions often require some knowledge of programming languages like Python or R, and familiarity with data analysis tools. While prior experience is beneficial, candidates can improve their chances by completing relevant coursework, projects, or certifications to demonstrate skills to employers.

What is the difference between Remote Data Science Student vs Remote Data Analyst?

AspectRemote Data Science StudentRemote Data Analyst
Required CredentialsEnrolled in or recently completed data science courses, certificationsDegree in statistics, mathematics, or related field; some certifications
Work EnvironmentLearning-focused, internship or entry-level projects, mentorshipAnalyzing data, creating reports, supporting decision-making
Employer & Industry UsageEducational institutions, internships, entry-level roles in tech, finance, healthcareBusinesses across industries, performing routine data analysis tasks

The main difference is that a Remote Data Science Student is typically in training or early learning stages, focusing on gaining skills through coursework and internships. In contrast, a Remote Data Analyst is usually engaged in applying existing skills to analyze data and generate insights for organizations. Both roles are entry-level but differ in experience, responsibilities, and focus areas.

What are remote data science students?

Remote data science students are individuals who study data science through online programs or courses, rather than attending classes in person. They learn key concepts such as statistics, machine learning, and programming using digital resources and remote instruction. This flexible approach allows students to access high-quality education from anywhere, often at their own pace. Remote data science students may participate in virtual classes, complete assignments online, and collaborate with peers and instructors through digital platforms.

Can I get a remote job as a data scientist?

Yes, remote data scientist positions are available across various industries and companies. These roles typically require strong skills in programming, data analysis, and machine learning, and often involve using tools like Python, R, and cloud platforms. Candidates should have relevant education, experience, and sometimes certifications to qualify for remote work opportunities.

Is 30 too late for data science?

The remote data science student role typically values skills and experience over age; many professionals transition into data science later in life. Learning programming languages like Python, gaining experience with data analysis tools, and building a portfolio can help regardless of age. Age should not be a barrier to entering the field if you develop relevant skills and stay committed.

How do Remote Data Science Students typically collaborate and communicate with peers and instructors to enhance their learning experience?

Remote Data Science Students often engage with peers and instructors through online platforms such as discussion forums, video calls, and collaborative coding environments. Regular participation in virtual study groups, project teams, and mentorship sessions can help students stay motivated and deepen their understanding of complex topics. Proactively reaching out for feedback, sharing progress, and contributing to group projects are key ways to build valuable connections and learn industry-relevant teamwork skills, even in a remote setting.

What is the 80 20 rule in data science?

The 80/20 rule in data science suggests that roughly 80% of results come from 20% of the efforts or data. Data scientists often focus on the most impactful features or data subsets to improve model performance efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Data Science Student, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Data Science Student, you need a solid grounding in statistics, programming (Python or R), and data analysis, often supported by a relevant undergraduate degree or coursework. Familiarity with tools like Jupyter Notebooks, SQL, Git, and data visualization software is essential, along with experience using online learning platforms. Strong time management, self-motivation, and effective communication skills help you stay on track and engage with peers and instructors remotely. Mastering these skills ensures you can independently acquire knowledge, complete projects, and collaborate effectively in a virtual learning environment.

Job description

Job Description
Senior Software Product Consultant
Remote-Americas
Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
CSC Corptax is looking for a rising tax technology professional to join our Professional Services Consulting team. We are looking for people that can think and operate like engineers, that will thrive in the transition from traditional implementation consulting into an environment of automation and evolving technology. In this role, you will develop measurable client outcomes today while adopting new technology of the future. A tax technologist with a builder mindset, someone who uses data, automation, and AI to redesign workflows not just execute tasks.
You'll partner with sophisticated tax organizations (including international tax environments) to implement Corptax solutions, improve data foundations, and drive repeatable, scalable ways of working. You will also surface patterns and product insights from the field to help shape how our solutions and delivery model evolve.
What success looks like:
  • Clients don't just go live with our implementations, they achieve measurable improvements (cycle time, reliability, standardization, and data quality).
  • Solutions are designed to be repeatable and scalable, avoiding one-off custom approaches where possible.
  • You consistently bring a technologist/product lens: systems thinking, root-cause analysis, and thoughtful tradeoffs.
  • You use automation and AI as core tools, responsibly and with appropriate controls, to accelerate analysis and reduce manual work.
  • You capture recurring patterns and feed them back into product and delivery playbooks to improve the platform and the model.

What you will be doing:
Deliver client outcomes (implementation + value realization)
  • Lead implementations of Corptax US Compliance and Provision solutions, including federal, state, and international scope.
  • Translate tax business processes into scalable configurations, data models, and workflow designs.
  • Own execution against project plans: scope, dependencies, risks, milestones, and client communications.

Data, automation, and AI-driven workflow improvement
  • Work deeply with data (mapping, transformations, validation, controls) to improve quality and reliability.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to standardize, automate, and remove manual effort across the workflow.
  • Apply emerging AI capabilities to accelerate analysis, documentation, and decision support-while maintaining governance and auditability expectations.

Product/technologist mindset and feedback loop
  • Identify recurring client patterns, friction points, and gaps; convert them into clear product and delivery insights.
  • Contribute to scalable delivery assets: templates, standard configurations, and implementation accelerators.
  • Partner cross-functionally (Product, Engineering, Services leadership) to improve outcomes and reduce variability.

Client partnership and communication
  • Lead working sessions, publish meeting notes, maintain action tracking, and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Communicate proactively about time, scope, tradeoffs, and progress to ensure on-time/on-budget delivery.
  • Support clients during critical reporting cycles with calm, structured execution.

What technical skills, experience, and qualifications are necessary?
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, computer science, or related field (Master's in Tax is a plus).
  • 2-3 years of experience in tax, accounting, tax technology, or adjacent consulting roles.
  • Client-facing experience with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Experience with Corptax or similar tax software platforms.
  • Project execution skills (planning, tracking, documentation, and stakeholder management).

The capability signals we care about (non-negotiables)
  • International tax exposure or strong interest, with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Data fluency: comfortable discussing data structures, mappings, transformations, and quality controls.
  • Automation-first mindset: you default to simplifying and standardizing before adding complexity.
  • AI openness with practical judgment: you're eager to use AI where it adds leverage, and you understand why controls, traceability, and governance matter.
  • Builder mentality: you enjoy turning ambiguity into a clear plan and a working solution.

Additional information:
  • Flexible for domestic and potential international travel.
  • Remote role within the United States with access to major airport hub.

At CSC, compensation decisions are dependent on a number of factors including job location and the knowledge and experience of each individual. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $95,784.56 to $108,539.36.
