Required CredentialsPhysics degree, data science certificationsEngineering degree, data science certifications
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, tech companies, academiaTech firms, manufacturing, software companies
Industry UsageScientific research, academia, tech innovationProduct development, systems engineering, software solutions

Remote Data Science Physics focuses on applying physics principles to data analysis and modeling, often in research or scientific contexts. Remote Data Science Engineering emphasizes developing data-driven products and systems within engineering and technology sectors. While both roles require data science skills, their industry applications and focus areas differ significantly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Data Science Physicist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Data Science Physicist, you need a strong background in physics, statistics, and mathematics, typically supported by a relevant degree (such as Physics or Data Science) and experience with data analysis. Proficiency with programming languages like Python or R, machine learning frameworks, and data visualization tools is essential, along with familiarity with cloud-based collaboration platforms. Excellent problem-solving skills, communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote work and interdisciplinary collaboration. These skills ensure accurate data-driven insights, effective teamwork, and successful project delivery in a remote environment.

How do remote data science physicists typically collaborate with multidisciplinary teams despite working offsite?

Remote data science physicists often work closely with software engineers, domain scientists, and project managers through virtual collaboration tools such as Slack, Zoom, and cloud-based platforms for data sharing and analysis. Regular online meetings, shared documentation, and version-controlled repositories (like GitHub) are essential for maintaining clear communication and workflow alignment. While remote work offers flexibility, it requires proactive communication and strong organizational skills to ensure seamless integration with the broader research or product development team.

What is a Remote Data Science Physics job?

A Remote Data Science Physics job involves using data science tools, such as statistical analysis, machine learning, and programming, to solve problems or analyze data related to physics, all while working from a remote location. Professionals in this field may work on projects like simulations, data modeling, or research for academic or industry settings. They apply their understanding of physics concepts alongside data science skills to extract meaningful insights from large and complex datasets. This role often requires proficiency in programming languages like Python or R, knowledge of data analysis techniques, and a strong foundation in physics.

Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer III, Senior
Research & Development, Environmental
1 regular full-time position, located on-site in Logan, UT

Closing Date: End of Day, July 7, 2026
Our teams design and build products that make a difference to people all over the world. Whether the application is small or large, we take pride in what we design, build, and provide to our customers. Our teams approach every problem with integrity, curiosity and creativity, in order to continually work towards creating better products that solve real-world problems. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer III to join us and help us continue our work towards designing and creating the best possible solutions to meet the evolving needs of our global customers.
We Are Campbell Scientific
We work to make a difference and help those working to advance science and technology for the benefit of humankind. Through our advanced measurement systems, our goal is to provide key insights to people using science and technology to solve massive global challenges including severe weather, climate change, limited natural resources, sustainable food production, energy production and distribution, and infrastructure safety.
What's in it For You?
- A premium benefits package. We have competitive Paid Time Off; Medical, Dental, Vision, and Hearing Insurance with no premiums based on Full Time 40-hour weeks; Long-Term and Short-Term Disability; AD&D; 401(k) and a Profit-Sharing Plan; and Gym Memberships.
- Industry competitive salaries.
- A great work culture where we work hard and make the time to enjoy both our work and the people around us.
- Challenging and engaging work that makes a difference on a global scale.
What You'll Work On
This position will work in the environmental research product development group on new sensor design.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design, analysis, and testing of electronic instrumentation and measurement systems. Design work will likely include 3D machining, sheet metal, plastic molding, optics, fluids, and gas flow. Responsibilities include the selection and definition for materials, processes, mounting, packaging, analysis (thermal, vibration, etc.), and other mechanical issues arising in the design of electronic instrumentation and measurement systems.
The Senior designation for this role indicates an individual with additional expertise and years of experience. A senior engineer applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments. This requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of mechanical engineering and related sciences or disciplines. In the course of product development, a senior engineer is able to exercise independent judgment and decision-making on common engineering problems and methods and receive consultation on more difficult problems.
You'll Support Your Team by Performing the Following Key Tasks
- Create and maintain a strong culture in accordance with Campbell Scientific's core ARCTIC values -- Accountable, Respectful, Client-Centric, Team-Oriented, Innovative, Continually Improving.
- Design Engineering
- Design new products using sheet metal, metal machining, plastics, optics, fluids, gases, etc.
- Maintain existing products with design updates and improvements.
- Analyze designs for thermal, flow, vibration, structure, etc.
- Design manufacturing processes and integrating with existing manufacturing processes.
- Verification and validation testing of components and systems.
- Develop documentation for parts and processes.
- Leadership
- Senior engineers often mentor, supervise, and review the work of other engineers and technicians.
- Senior engineers may manage small projects that do not have a dedicated project manager.
- Senior engineers represent the organization as needed to resolve significant questions to audiences both internal and external to the organization.
- Regularly coordinate and communicate with reporting and presentations to stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent). Preference for a master's degree.
