Overview

AI Productivity & Power BI Lead

LOCATION: Remote U.S.

JOB STATUS: Full-time

CLEARANCE: Secret (Ability to Obtain/Maintain)

TRAVEL: As Needed

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced builder to run AI productivity and executive Power BI for Astrion. You will deploy AI against our highest-cycle, highest-volume processes, design the executive dashboards leadership uses to run the business, and stand up the data integration and governance that make both possible.

This is a hands-on builder role. You will ship working software, not slideware. You will sit with department leaders, scope a tool, ship working drafts, and iterate from there. You will own data models, agent architectures, refresh schedules, security labels, and the documentation a teammate could pick up cold and run with.

About Astrion

Astrion delivers mission-ready engineering, test, and digital solutions to the U.S. Department of Defense, the intelligence community, and federal civilian customers. Roughly 6,000 teammates across the country support some of the most demanding programs in national security, from flight test and evaluation to advanced systems engineering and AI-enabled mission solutions.

We hold our internal work to the same standard we deliver to customers. The data, analytics, and AI tools our people use to run the business should be field-proven, validated, and built to last.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent technical field. An advanced degree is welcomed but not required if your track record is exceptional.
  • 10+ years of total experience, with at least 5 years as a hands-on builder of enterprise-grade software, automation, or AI systems. Current coding proficiency is non-negotiable.

  • Expert-level Power BI mastery: Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query (M), dataflows, paginated reports, row-level security, and embedded executive scorecards. You have shipped large, executive-grade Power BI environments at scale.

  • Deep applied AI fluency. Production experience with LLMs, agentic frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, evals, MCP, vector databases, and at least one major AI platform (Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, OpenAI).

  • Strong full-stack programming skills. Python, TypeScript and React, SQL, REST and GraphQL APIs, and modern cloud infrastructure. Microsoft and Azure ecosystem fluency strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to integrate enterprise back-end systems via APIs, iPaaS, Microsoft Fabric, Power Automate, Dataverse, ETL and ELT, or equivalent. You connect source systems into live data feeds, not static reports.

  • Cross-functional business fluency. You have built and shipped tools used by Finance, HR, Sales and BD, Legal, IT, or Operations leaders, and can speak fluently to functional executives in their own language.

  • A track record applying human-interface and UX-design rigor to internal tools, with measurable adoption outcomes.

  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Experience inside a defense, aerospace, or other regulated industry, with awareness of CMMC, ITAR, FedRAMP, or equivalent regimes.

  • Experience scaling AI productivity inside a private-equity-backed company with an active value-creation plan.

  • Deep experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Copilot for M365, Copilot agents, Microsoft Fabric, and the broader Microsoft AI and data stack.

  • Microsoft Power Platform certifications (PL-300, PL-400, PL-500, PL-600).

  • Prior experience embedded with executive teams and comfort presenting at the board level.

  • Familiarity with enterprise ERP, CRM, and HCM systems used in defense back-office environments, capture and BD tools, and Shipley-aligned proposal automation.

  • Prior leadership of a small, high-leverage team of engineers, BI developers, or automation specialists.

  • Secret clearance (or higher) preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect and deploy AI-powered automation across corporate and operational functions, prioritizing high-cycle, high-volume, high-error processes including financial close, capture and proposal, contracts review, recruiting, onboarding, IT ticketing, and M&A pipeline operations.

  • Design, build, and continuously evolve Astrion’s executive Power BI dashboards fed by live feeds across Astrion Business Systems, contracts and BD pipelines, M&A target trackers, and operational KPIs.

  • Stand up the live data integration backbone that connects Astrion Business Systems via APIs, Power BI dataflows, Microsoft Fabric, Power Automate, Dataverse, and custom pipelines where required.

  • Identify, evaluate, pilot, and roll out the right AI tool for the right business function. Maintain a living map of best-in-class point solutions and embedded copilots across Finance, HR, BD and capture, Legal, IT and security, Engineering, and Marketing and communications.

  • Build internal LLM-based agents and retrieval-augmented generation systems on Astrion’s HR, contract, proposal, and operational program performance data. Deliver secure, auditable, role-aware self-service for employees.

  • Apply human-interface and UX-design discipline to every internal tool. Adoption, latency, friction, and trust are first-class success metrics, not afterthoughts.

  • Establish and enforce AI governance. Data classification, model risk, IP and CUI protection, audit logging, and alignment with CMMC, ITAR, and FedRAMP-adjacent posture.

  • Run a quarterly AI productivity portfolio review with the executive team, sequencing initiatives by labor leverage and EBITDA impact.

  • Partner directly with the executive team to translate functional pain into shipped, measured tools.

  • Contribute to customer-facing platform offerings as Astrion’s MOSA-compliant software and integration platform matures.

Why Astrion

  • Mission that matters. Your work informs decisions that shape national security programs.
  • Builder culture. We ship working software, not slideware. Prototypes are how we communicate.
  • Direct executive access. Your work is read weekly by the people running the company.
  • Modern stack. Microsoft Fabric, Power Platform, and an AI-forward roadmap that keeps your skills current.
  • Competitive total compensation, full medical and dental, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and tuition assistance.
