Remote Data Integration Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Data Integration Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Data Integration Developer, you need a strong background in database management, ETL processes, and programming languages like SQL, Python, or Java, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with data integration platforms (e.g., Informatica, Talend, MuleSoft), cloud services (AWS, Azure), and relevant certifications are typically required. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating across distributed teams. These skills and qualifications ensure the seamless, secure, and efficient transfer of data across systems, which is vital for organizational decision-making and operations.

What is the difference between Remote Data Integration Developer vs Data Engineer?

AspectRemote Data Integration DeveloperData Engineer
Required CredentialsTypically requires SQL, ETL tools, and data integration certificationsRequires SQL, programming languages (Python, Java), and sometimes cloud certifications
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, focused on data pipelines and integration tasksOften remote or on-site, involved in building and maintaining data infrastructure
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in tech, finance, healthcare for data flow managementCommon in tech, finance, and large enterprises for data architecture

The Remote Data Integration Developer focuses on designing and implementing data pipelines and integrating data from various sources, often working with ETL tools. Data Engineers build and maintain the overall data infrastructure, including data warehouses and pipelines, requiring broader programming skills. Both roles are essential in data management but differ in scope and technical depth.

What are some common challenges Remote Data Integration Developers face when collaborating with distributed teams?

Remote Data Integration Developers often work with teams spread across different time zones and departments, which can present challenges in communication and project coordination. Ensuring data consistency and managing integration schedules require clear documentation and regular virtual meetings to stay aligned. Additionally, troubleshooting integration issues remotely may involve navigating various system environments without direct on-site access. Proactive communication and the use of collaborative tools help overcome these obstacles and support successful project delivery.

What is a Remote Data Integration Developer?

A Remote Data Integration Developer is an IT professional who specializes in designing, building, and maintaining systems that combine data from different sources, working entirely from a remote location. They use tools and programming languages to create automated data pipelines, ensure data quality, and enable seamless data flow across platforms. Job description

Sage is on a mission to improve care and quality of life for older adults, starting with those residing in senior living facilities. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related death among adults over 65. And yet, fall prevention and emergency response systems for older adults are archaic and ineffective. At Sage we've built a more modern way of understanding when older adults need help, including methods for residents to alert caregivers when in need of help, and corresponding software for caregivers to triage response. Our company mission is to create a product that our client counterparts love, and this role is a key part of that objective.
Sage is a small, tight team of ambitious, multi-disciplinary entrepreneurs. We are a software-enabled, mission-driven company, and are focused only on the problems that are central to achieving that mission. At Sage, we work hard and fast but also know that to build a truly important company, we need to treat our work as a marathon, and not a sprint. The journey matters.
About this Role
This role is a senior backend engineer on the EHR Integrations team who will drive forward the development of the core tasking workflows. We are starting to make large investments on EHR integrations to better capture care and improve day to day work flows for our caregivers and communities.
You'll be responsible for understanding and implementing complex data flows between EHRs (Electronic Health Record) and Sage, and tackling difficult data problems. You are excited about making an impact on caregivers, ultimately improving quality of care given to residents, and setting up the Sage ecosystem to have high quality data around care provided. You work cross-functionally to gather requirements, ask the right questions, and drive alignment on what to build.
Responsibilities
These are examples of projects that you'd work on:

  • Partner with product and data teams to build and deepen EHR integrations
  • Develop data-intensive applications, potentially leveraging genAI, for both internal and external users
  • Shepherd integrations between core Sage applications and data platform in partnership with other engineering teams
  • Implement complex authentication and authorization flows, including customer SSO/identity provider integration
  • Build, manage, and optimize compute-intensive data pipelines
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with significant depth in backend and/or distributed ETL systems
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining REST APIs
  • Understanding of authentication and authorization concepts, including OAuth, and machine to machine access
  • General experience/knowledge of backend service frameworks, such as Spring, Dropwizard, Django, etc
  • Experience with developing and deploying services in a containerized environment, ex: Docker or Kubernetes
  • Experience with general database operations, including designing and writing database tables and queries, general knowledge of indices, and experience optimizing queries
  • Experience with distributed systems, including knowledge of (but not limited to) load balancers, proxies, APIs, rate limiting, scaling
  • Familiarity with ETL methodologies, real-time and batch processing architectures, and the engineering best practices that underpin reliable, scalable data integration solutions.

Benefits and Pay
Our headquarters are located in New York City's Union Square. We believe in cross team collaboration. We think good ideas can come from anyone, and we've designed our processes to encourage participation from all. While we take our mission seriously, we don't take ourselves too seriously. We like to host offsites, outings, and team meals where we can connect as people, not just as colleagues. We offer office lunch and a fully stocked snack bar. While we are an in office culture, we allow up to 2 remote days per week.
Our benefits package for employees includes competitive base compensation along with stock options. The expected annual salary range for this role is $175,000-210,000 USD, depending on your level of expertise, your experience, and your performance in the interview process. We also provide fully-paid health and dental insurance coverage for all of our employees, along with other health benefits including vision insurance, membership to premium primary and urgent care, and online medical health providers. We also have a take as you need time off policy, in addition to 7 paid holidays and a company wide winter break during the holidays.
