Remote Data Infrastructure information

What is remote data infrastructure?

Remote data infrastructure refers to the systems, tools, and processes that enable organizations to collect, store, manage, and analyze data from remote locations, often via cloud-based platforms. This infrastructure allows teams to access and work with data securely from anywhere, supporting distributed work environments and scalable data solutions. It typically involves cloud storage, data pipelines, databases, and security protocols tailored for remote accessibility. Remote data infrastructure is essential for businesses that operate in multiple locations or have remote teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote data infrastructure engineer?

To excel as a Remote Data Infrastructure Engineer, you need a strong background in computer science, data architecture, and experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Familiarity with tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, and data pipeline technologies, as well as relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect), is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, clear communication, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for remote collaboration and troubleshooting. These competencies ensure reliable, scalable data systems and effective teamwork across distributed environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote data infrastructure roles?

Professionals in remote data infrastructure roles often encounter challenges such as ensuring seamless communication across distributed teams, maintaining high availability and performance of data systems, and managing security risks associated with remote access. Coordinating with colleagues across different time zones can require flexibility in scheduling and proactive communication. Additionally, remote data infrastructure engineers must stay up-to-date with evolving cloud technologies and best practices to effectively support scalable, reliable, and secure data architectures.

Job description

At Ford Motor Company, we believe freedom of movement drives human progress. We also believe in providing you with the freedom to define and realize your dreams. With our incredible plans for the future of mobility, we have a wide variety of opportunities for you to accelerate your career potential as you help us define tomorrow's transportation.

Creating the future of smart mobility requires the highly intelligent use of data, metrics, and analytics. That's where you can make an impact as part of our Global Data Insight & Analytics (GDIA) team. We are the trusted advisers that enable Ford to clearly see business conditions, customer needs, and the competitive landscape.

With our support, key decision-makers can act in meaningful, positive ways. Join us and use your data expertise and software engineering skills to drive evidence-based, timely decision-making. Position Overview Quality Analytics is a product group within GDIA that builds cutting-edge on-premises and cloud analytics solutions.

We are modernizing our portfolio by embedding Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and autonomous agentic workflows to revolutionize how Ford manages industrial data. This Full-Stack Software Engineer position is ideal for a technically oriented, forward-thinking individual who has experience designing, building, and deploying cloud applications, owning Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure with hands-on Terraform expertise, and who is eager to pioneer the use of Agentic AI and LLMs to solve complex industrial analytics challenges. What You'll Be Able To Do As a Full-Stack Software Engineer on our Balanced Product Team, you will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Product Designers, and fellow engineers to own solutions end-to-end-from design and development to deployment, infrastructure management, and continuous optimization.

AI & Agentic Solution Development: Architect, build, and deploy LLM-powered applications, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and multi-agent systems to automate complex data analysis, anomaly detection, and decision-support workflows. Cloud Infrastructure & IaC Ownership: Design, build, and maintain Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure using Terraform-authoring reusable modules, managing environment promotion, and maintaining state management at portfolio scale. AI-Assisted Software Engineering: Champion the use of generative AI tools and agentic coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, custom LLM agents) to streamline the software development lifecycle, automate testing, and accelerate CI/CD pipelines

Product & Requirements Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business goals into technical requirements, user stories, and automated test suites within an Agile framework. Technical Design & Architecture: Author comprehensive technical design documents, system architecture diagrams, and API specifications to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable full-stack systems. Modern Operations & DevOps: Build robust CI/CD deployment pipelines on GCP, integrate automated security and quality scanning, and implement modern Identity & Access Management (IAM) and automated credential rotation using Terraform.

Reliability & Continuous Improvement: Drive proactive problem management, root cause analysis (RCA), and incident resolution to ensure high availability and performance of critical analytical systems. Minimum Requirements We Seek Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related quantitative/technology field. 4+ years of professional experience in Software Engineering.

3+ years of experience with modern frontend frameworks (Angular, React, or Vue). 3+ years of experience with backend frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, Django, or Spring Boot). 2+ years of experience with Python (highly preferred for AI/Data) and/or Java.

3+ years of hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)-compute, storage, networking, and IAM. 2+ years of experience authoring and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) via Terraform modules, including remote state management and CI/CD-driven plan/apply workflows. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

Experience integrating LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Vertex AI) or open-source models into production software applications. AI & Agentic Frameworks: Experience with LLM orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex) and multi-agent development platforms (e.g., CrewAI, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel). Advanced GCP & DevOps: GCP Certification (e.g., Professional Cloud Architect or DevOps Engineer); hands-on experience with Cloud Build, Tekton, multi-environment Terraform deployment, and multi-cloud architectures (Azure/AWS a plus)

Software Craftsmanship: Deep understanding of software engineering disciplines including eXtreme Programming (XP), Clean Code principles, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and Pair/Mob programming. Agile Mindset: Comfortable working with Agile tools (Jira, Rally) in a fast-paced, continuous-delivery environment. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a passion for bringing cutting-edge technology to business partners and customers.
