Job description

Part-Time Tax Reviewer

We are a small, established CPA firm looking for an experienced tax professional to help with the review of individual and business tax returns.

We are looking for someone with at least 5 years of tax experience who is comfortable reviewing 1040, 1120-S, and 1065 returns. This is a part-time position that would be a good fit for an experienced tax preparer, senior, manager, CPA, or EA who enjoys reviewing returns and wants a flexible schedule.

Hours

  • Approximately 10 hours per week throughout most of the year
  • Approximately 25 hours per week from January through May
  • Flexible schedule
  • Remote work is an option

Responsibilities

  • Review completed 1040, 1120-S, and 1065 returns
  • Check returns for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Review workpapers and supporting documentation
  • Compare returns to prior years and identify unusual or missing items
  • Check basis, depreciation, income, deductions, credits, and other significant tax items
  • Identify potential tax issues and opportunities
  • Communicate review comments and questions to the preparer
  • Help ensure returns are ready for final approval and filing

We are looking for someone who can take a return, review it thoughtfully, and identify things that may have been missed. You should be comfortable working independently and making sound tax decisions without needing constant supervision.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of tax preparation and/or review experience
  • Strong experience with 1040, 1120-S, and 1065 returns
  • Good understanding of federal tax law and common state tax issues
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills
  • CPA or EA is a plus
  • UltraTax CS experience is a plus

This is not a high-volume data-entry position. We are looking for an experienced tax professional who enjoys the review side of the business and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality returns.

Compensation will depend on experience and qualifications. Please include your resume, a brief description of your tax experience, your experience with 1040/1120-S/1065 returns, UltraTax experience if applicable, and your desired hourly rate.
