What is a remote data engineer?

A Remote Data Engineer is a professional who designs, builds, and maintains data pipelines, databases, and data processing systems while working from a location outside of a traditional office. They collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure data is collected, stored, and made accessible efficiently and securely. Remote Data Engineers use programming languages like Python or Scala, work with technologies such as SQL, Hadoop, or cloud platforms, and address challenges related to data quality and scalability. Their remote role allows them to work for companies regardless of geographic location, often relying on virtual collaboration tools to stay connected with their teams.

What does a remote data engineer do?

As a remote data engineer, you focus on collecting, storing, and organizing large amounts of information. You work from home to design, develop, and maintain systems for the mining, warehousing, and processing of data. A data engineer communicates with employers, clients, or other data professionals to assess the needs of the project and develop and implement solutions to meet those needs. Data engineers also take steps to manage current database architecture and make updates when needed. Remote engineers typically handle their responsibilities in a cloud-based environment using “big data” tools, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and SQL.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote data engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Data Engineer, you need strong programming skills in languages like Python or Scala, expertise in SQL, data modeling, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP), big data tools (like Hadoop and Spark), and certifications in cloud or data engineering are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills help remote data engineers collaborate effectively and stay productive in a distributed environment. These competencies ensure reliable data pipelines, scalable solutions, and seamless teamwork, which are critical for organizational success in data-driven projects.

How do remote data engineers typically collaborate with other team members across different time zones?

Remote Data Engineers often work with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and software engineers, many of whom may be located in different parts of the world. Collaboration is usually facilitated through project management tools, version control platforms, and regular virtual meetings. It’s common to have a mix of synchronous check-ins and asynchronous communication, allowing for flexible scheduling and efficient handoffs. Strong written communication skills and proactive status updates are essential for staying aligned with team objectives and project deadlines.

Job description

Agility's commercially deployed humanoids operate alongside teams in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers—tackling physically demanding and repetitive tasks while enabling workers to focus on higher-value work. With industry-leading safety standards and years of proven deployment data, we're pioneering a new era of automation that enhances human potential.

About the Work

As the Senior Product Marketing Manager, you will bridge the gap between our industry-leading humanoid robotics technology and the audiences evaluating our solutions. Your job is to own positioning and messaging for Agility's product and technology portfolio—including our humanoid robot Digit, Arc automation software platform, and the broader ecosystem of tools and technology that keep Digit working.

You will be the ultimate connective tissue between masterful engineering and the market, translating deep technical concepts into crisp, customer-focused value propositions. The ideal candidate blends deep technical curiosity with strategic marketing muscle and a hands-on passion for storytelling and content creation.

What You'll Do
  • Portfolio Positioning & Messaging: Define and evolve the overarching value proposition for Agility's product portfolio. Develop differentiated messaging frameworks that connect technical capabilities with customer needs.
  • Drive Go-To-Market & Launches: Lead GTM planning and high-profile product announcements. You will own audience definition, naming, positioning, and marketing requirements to drive awareness and demand in priority industries and use cases.
  • Technical Content & Enablement: Serve as a hands-on creator and overseer of high-impact sales enablement assets (spec sheets, presentations, case studies, and videos). Ensure absolute technical accuracy while accelerating the buyer's journey.
  • Know the Customer Deeply: Map the decision-making landscape for automation buyers and operators. Understand their operational pain points, tech stacks, buying processes, and KPIs to create persona frameworks that ground all demand generation and marketing execution.
  • Synthesize Market Intelligence: Act as the strategic loop between the market and the company. Gather and translate analyst research, win/loss data, competitive intelligence, and customer feedback into actionable insights that shape our go-to-market.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Management and Engineering to become a subject matter expert on Agility's hardware and software applications. Collaborate tightly with a world class creative team to bring product storytelling to life across all marketing channels.
  • Set Demand Generation Priorities: Use data-driven insights and market trends to establish clear priorities for demand generation, ensuring campaigns align with current product capabilities and priority industries.
About You
  • 8+ years of experience in product marketing or product management, with a proven track record of driving high-profile product launches for robotics, AI, or adjacent deep-tech hardware.
  • A master storyteller and writer who can translate complex technical functionality into clear, relatable narratives for both highly technical engineering buyers and non-technical executives.
  • Industrial market fluency: Experience marketing to manufacturing, logistics, or warehousing industries is a strong plus. You should be comfortable speaking the language of industrial customers.
  • A strong bias for action, backed by incisive strategic instincts. You balance big-picture strategy with execution, and you thrive when bringing clarity and direction to fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Highly collaborative and pragmatic, with a demonstrated ability to partner closely with Product Management, Sales, and creative teams to influence outcomes without formal authority.
The Agility Fit
  • Ownership: You proactively identify opportunities, take initiative on solutions, and follow through on commitments.
  • Trust: You listen as much as you talk and take responsibility for collective success.
  • Adaptability: You're smart with resources, focus on outcomes, and can pivot effectively as our industry evolves.
