Job description

Development Engineer -
Oil & Gas
Mid-Level
About MC&I
Mission Critical & Industrials (MC&I) is a growing consulting and engineering arm of NEI focused on the design and delivery of complex electrical infrastructure for demanding environments, including data centers, oil & gas operations and large-scale commercial and industrial facilities. MC&I supports high-impact infrastructure projects for clients, some of whom rank in the top ten of their respective industry segments across North America. The group combines the momentum of a team that is actively building with the stability of an established firm with more than 40 years of industry presence and over 300 engineers. Engineers remain engaged across the full project lifecycle, from early concept and planning through detailed design and execution support. The work emphasizes sound judgment, strong client relationships, and practical business thinking. MC&I offers an environment where engineers can contribute ideas, build lasting professional relationships, and help shape a long-term legacy of engineering excellence.
About the Position
The Development Engineer role is a key technical position within MC&I for experienced engineers supporting early-stage project development, feasibility, and preliminary design (0-30%). In this role, you will apply sound engineering judgment, coordinate across electrical, civil, and structural disciplines, and serve as a technical liaison between internal design teams, business development partners, and external stakeholders. The role balances hands-on engineering analysis with cross-functional collaboration, proposal support, and client-facing technical communication. The Development Engineer owns assigned development scopes, ensures adherence to QA/QC standards and supports the development and maintenance of performance analysis tools used during development. As MC&I continues to grow, this role offers opportunities to expand technical depth, client exposure, and business responsibility based on performance and business needs.
Salary Range: $90,000 - $150,000 / year
The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.
This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.
Key Responsibilities
Development Engineering & Technical Execution
  • Execute development engineering design activities, system performance modeling, and related CAD design activities by coordinating with discipline-specific (electrical, civil, structural) design teams
  • Review and oversee the delivery of preliminary designs (0-30%) and feasibility studies
  • Maintain professional understanding of all applicable codes, standards, and construction practices

Cross-Functional & Client Coordination
  • Act as a liaison between design teams and relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Work cross-functionally across departments to identify and align team members across disciplines to ensure project work is completed and submitted in a timely manner
  • Maintain strong and responsive company-client relationships, particularly for communication related to specific assignments and meeting topics

Quality, Tools & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure adherence to company and client QA/QC standards
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of departmental Standard Best Practices (SBPs)
  • Support the development, maintenance, and improvement of development-phase performance analysis tools

Client, Proposal & Professional Responsibilities
  • Work with proposal teams and subject matter experts (SMEs) to establish proposal pricing
  • Provide engineering and technical support to members of the Business Development & Project Services teams
  • Provide pre-sales technical support to customers and NEI outside sales teams
  • Support business development through Seller-Doer activities, including marketing support and proposal preparation as needed
  • Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, and continuing education activities as appropriate to maintain quality of work and support professional advancement
  • Maintain high ethical and professional standards
  • Attend required safety training and adhere to all safety rules and guidelines
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced design environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Preferred:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience supporting feasibility studies, proposal development, or early-stage project planning
  • Experience in consulting, EPC, or design-build environments
