Job description

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Geotechnician to support mineral exploration and field operations in remote Alaska. This role involves a wide range of hands-on tasks supporting geological and drilling activities. No prior experience is required, but a geology background is needed. Responsibilities and expectations will vary depending on experience level and job classification.
Qualifications
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 90 pounds
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding fieldwork
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • No prior experience required

  • Geology background/interest

General Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain masonry saws, rock crushers, and related equipment
  • Assist with core handling, processing, and organization
  • Support mineral exploration activities as assigned
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas
  • Follow established safety practices in all work activities

Responsibilities May Include (Based on Experience Level)
  • Operating skid steer loaders
  • Measuring and recording drill core data for geological logging
  • Loading and unloading aircraft
  • Receiving core samples from helicopters
  • Conducting soil and rock sampling
  • Operating GPS units and/or PDAs to collect sample locations and field data

Responsibilities by Classification
Entry-Level Geotechnician
  • Basic equipment operation and routine maintenance
  • Assisting with core handling and data recording
  • Conducting basic sampling and data collection

Intermediate Geotechnician
  • Operation of more complex equipment, including skid steer loaders
  • Detailed core measurement and accurate data recording
  • Assisting with sample logistics and transportation coordination
  • Advanced sampling techniques using GPS and/or PDA systems

Senior Geotechnician
  • Overseeing complex field tasks and supervising junior staff
  • Advanced equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Managing core logging workflows and data accuracy
  • Planning and executing sampling programs
  • Ensuring efficient, accurate documentation and data collection

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Remote field locations with variable and sometimes extreme weather conditions
  • Physically demanding work involving lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods
