Staying organized and proactive helps ensure data is collected efficiently and safely, and most companies provide training and support to help drivers handle these challenges.

What are Remote Data Collection Drivers?

Remote Data Collection Drivers are professionals who operate vehicles equipped with specialized sensors or devices to gather data for various purposes, such as mapping, traffic analysis, or infrastructure assessment. Unlike traditional drivers, their primary responsibility is to follow predetermined routes while ensuring accurate data collection, often working independently and reporting findings digitally. This role may include using GPS equipment, cameras, or other technology to record information, and it often allows for flexible or remote scheduling. Remote Data Collection Drivers are typically employed by companies involved in geographic information systems (GIS), urban planning, or autonomous vehicle development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Data Collection Driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Data Collection Driver, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and strong navigation skills, often supported by familiarity with GPS and mapping technologies. Proficiency with mobile data collection devices, onboard cameras, and reporting software is typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and strong time management help ensure accurate data collection and adherence to schedules. These skills are crucial for safely and efficiently gathering high-quality geographic or survey data to support organizational needs.

Job description

The Electronics for Contested Space Group develops advanced electronic systems and technology for the protection of our Nationโ€™s most important space capabilities. We design and develop state-of-the-art satellites and satellite payloads, novel concepts for resilient space architectures, and the Nationโ€™s most sensitive radars, optics, and passive RF systems. The group also provides engineering rigor and experience to some of the most critical National Security programs through Laboratory-wide collaboration and acts in an advisory capacity to the U.S. Government. Examples of recent projects include the prototyping of electronic systems and effects, hardware-in-the-loop testing of tactically relevant payloads with surrogate threat systems, developing RF subsystems for satellites, and analysis of spacecraft mission dynamics, environments, and resiliency.

Job Description

Activities may include algorithm development, hardware development, system integration, field data collection, data analysis, documentation and reporting, communication with sponsors and the community, and the independent creation of solutions to technical challenges. The successful candidate will contribute to multi-disciplinary teams executing advanced research and developing systems critical to National Security. Experienced engineers with a strong background in signal processing, microwave subsystems, remote sensing, RF / antenna design, power / control electronics, electronic warfare, or aerospace systems are strongly encouraged to apply.  Occasional travel to support field exercises, presentations to sponsors and the community, and other events may be required.

    • Space systems: vehicle design, space environment design and analysis, operations
  • Demonstrable ability to:
    • Develop respectful, productive working relationships
    • Communicate effectively in written and oral form, to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • Solve broad and/or complex technical or engineering problems
    • Learn and apply advanced technical knowledge quickly and proficiently
    • Analytical and/or scientific programming proficiency (e.g. MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or similar)
