Job description

Posting Title: Electrical PV Designer
Reports To: Senior Engineering Manager 
Location: San Jose, California | Remote
Salary Range: $108,750 to $143,000
 
*This position is eligible for the annual performance bonus plan

THE ENGINEERING TEAM
With an in-house team of electrical engineers, drafters and CAD operators, our resources rival those of standalone engineering firms. We are a true provider of turnkey electrical solutions—from design to delivery. As a part of this department, you can expect to work closely with our project management and field installation teams to streamline the construction process.
 
ABOUT THE ROLE
Engineer Level 3: An independent designer with functional knowledge and experience in designing small- and large-scale solar PV/BESS power systems ranging from 1 to 500+ MW interconnected at low- to medium-voltage levels. Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Receives instructions on specific assignments, complex features, and possible solutions. Assistance is furnished on unusual problems. Work is reviewed for correctness and application of the QAQC Process and professional judgment.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • May supervise or coordinate the work of other Designers and CAD drafters
 
Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform design tasks assigned by Electrical, Lead or Supervising Engineers
  • Perform progressively independent design of complete construction drawings including but not limited to medium and low voltage AC, DC, grounding, and DAS wiring diagrams, electrical site plans, and equipment layouts
  • Understand, prepare, and execute supporting calculations of the PV field DC and AC collection electrical infra-structure design including but not limited to equipment, conductor, conduit, and OCPD sizing, and voltage drop/power loss
  • Assemble design drawings and documents and provide or coordinate delivery
  • Attend meetings with internal and external customers and provide engineering support through design and construction phases including but not limited to reviewing equipment submittals, responding to RFIs, and addressing AHJ comments
  • Follow QAQC processes through design and construction phases
Other Functions:
  • Attend site visits as needed
  • Increased interaction with Project Managers, external design teams and information management
  • Maintain professional and technical development goals to acquire PE certification
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced designers
 
Other Responsibilities:
  • Perform job functions at both detailed design and preliminary proposal levels
  • Implement the engineering department's design and CAD workflows among team
  • Interact and coordinate with CEI's inter-department staff and managers supporting their agenda
  • Apply complete conformance of State, NEC and NESC codes to documents
  • Coordinate with CAD Manager for project support
  • Provide conformance to the standards and processes outlined by the CAD Manager
 
ABOUT YOU
  • Understanding of the NEC and NESC as applicable to commercial and utility scale power systems design and construction
  • AutoCAD (expert proficiency)
  • Microsoft Office Applications (advanced proficiency)
  • ETAP or equivalent power system analysis software (desired)
  • Cymcap (desired)
  • PVsyst (desired)
  • Immaculate file management skills
  • Possess meticulous work habits including close attention to detail, superior organizational skills, ability to effectively communicate and present technical information verbally and in writing via Microsoft Office applications (mainly Excel and Word)
  • Excellent time management and people skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
 
Education: Electrical Engineering or similar Bachelor of Science degree required.
 
Licensure/Certifications: Engineer-in-Training Certification (EIT)
Experience: 4-6 years working for an electrical design firm or design build electrical contractor. Solar electrical systems background
