Evaluation Systems of Pearson is seeking part-time, remote scorers to evaluate teacher candidate responses for language assessments. Scorers apply established scoring standards, participate in training and calibration activities, and help support the quality and consistency of teacher licensure assessments.
This flexible, remote opportunity allows educators and fluent language professionals to apply their expertise while supporting high professional standards for future educators. Scorers can connect with other professionals, stay engaged in their field, and contribute to the quality of teacher licensure assessments.

We are actively recruiting qualified candidates for current and future remote scoring opportunities in the following languages for programs supported by our California office.

What You'll Do
  • Evaluate responses to test questions completed by Illinois and New York teacher candidates using established scoring criteria.
  • Complete required scorer training and calibration activities before scoring begins.
  • Internalize scoring standards, participate in discussions, and engage with other scorers in consensus-scoring activities.
  • Recognize and mitigate potential sources of scoring bias, including implicit bias, cultural bias, leniency bias, central tendency bias, and the halo effect.
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program, including passing a qualifying test before scoring.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirement
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.

In addition, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
K-12 Educators
  • Hold a current teaching certification in the language for which they are applying; and
  • Currently teach, or have taught, in a public or private school within the last three years, including regular substitute teaching assignments.

Higher Education Faculty or Advisors
  • Current or former college or university educators may qualify if they hold a degree in a content-relevant field and/or have taught or advised in a content-relevant field within the last three years.

Native or Fluent Language Speakers
  • Are native or fluent speakers of the language for which they are applying, with demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak the language proficiently.

Active and Recently Retired Professionals
  • We welcome applications from both active and recently retired educators, faculty members, and language professionals who meet the qualification requirements.

Other Requirements
  • Basic computer skills, including use of a keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to maintain a confidential work environment.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Schedule and Working Conditions
  • Part-time, project-based work offered on an intermittent basis, typically two to three times per year.
  • Scoring sessions take place Monday through Friday.
  • A typical scoring day runs from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m., including training.
  • Required training takes place before scoring begins, and a brief orientation meeting may occur before the scoring day.
  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Compensation and Benefits Eligibility
  • Starting rate: $20 per hour.
  • This position is not eligible for bonuses or benefits.
