ACE in CLS is IBM App Connect Enterprise - the integration/middleware platform formerly known as IBM Integration Bus (IIB). In Nationwide artifacts it appears as "CL IIB / Ace (AppConnect Enterprise)".

What it does, in plain English:

  • It connects systems and services so data can move between applications. IBM's ACE description specifically calls out connectivity, routing, and integration across apps, systems, and services.
  • It transforms/maps data from one system's format to another. In CLS examples, PolicyCenter fields are sent to ACE and ACE maps them into downstream target fields such as HPEX/GSDD print/form structures.
  • It orchestrates service/API calls. One CLS document shows ACE receiving a request from PolicyCenter, obtaining a bearer token, calling the UWRS REST API, and then mapping the response back to PolicyCenter.
  • It can also apply validation/business-handling logic in the integration flow before data is passed downstream

For someone to be successful as a candidate they will need to have:

  • Strong ACE/IIB Integration background
  • PolicyCenter familiarity
  • Experience w/field mappings, APIs, and dostream irchestration
  • Ability to troubleshoot production/support issues across connected systems
  • Understanding of CLS business processes and line impacts

This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio, Des Moines, Iowa, or Scottsdale, Arizona office 2 days (Monday & Tuesday) per week. Remote internal associates may also be considered.

This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the StemOPT Extension program.

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications.   • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.

  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.

  • Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
