Job description

Position Summary
This Assistant District Attorney position is a full-time position to be filled in the District Attorney's office for Eau Claire County located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. This is a State position in the unclassified service . This position will carry a general caseload with the opportunity for specialization, dependent on the successful applicant's skills, experience, and interest.

The Eau Claire County District Attorney's Office consists of the District Attorney, a Deputy District Attorney, and ten Assistant District attorneys, and one Criminal Trial Special Prosecutor. In addition to the attorney staff, there are eight DA support staff, four Victim Witness staff, two Diversion Program Coordinators, and one Legal Services Director. The Eau Claire County DA's Office staff are dedicated, experienced, and supportive.
The Eau Claire County DA's office currently employs a vertical prosecution model, where prosecutors primarily charge their own cases and follow those cases to completion. The office is a paperless office and is constantly seeking ways to leverage technology to enhance work in the office.
In addition to adult criminal matters, the office handles non-criminal traffic and ordinance violations in Eau Claire County. The Eau Claire County District Attorney's Office works closely with the Eau Claire County Department of Human Services in juvenile delinquency cases and other sensitive crime cases. Eau Claire County has a Child Advocacy Center operated by Children's Wisconsin which is relied on extensively to conduct forensic interviews to investigate child maltreatment cases.
The Assistant District Attorney will be utilized for after-hours and weekend on-call work on a rotating basis, distributed across all attorney staff. The District Attorney is committed to providing a work environment that encourages a healthy work-life balance.
The Eau Claire District Attorney's Office is located on the second floor of the Eau Claire County Government Center in the County Seat of Eau Claire. The Government Center is located at 721 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54703. All six Circuit Court branches and the Clerk of Circuit Court are also located on the second floor. The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office and City of Eau Claire Police Department are also located in the Government Center building. Eau Claire County is a growing community of approximately 108,000 citizens.
All prosecutors are provided with their own personal office, standing desk converters, and dual monitors. Attorneys are provided free parking and a secure staff entrance. All visitors to the second floor of the Government Center are required to pass through a security checkpoint consisting of a metal detector and x-ray baggage check. The Eau Claire County District Attorney's Office was recently renovated to upgrade security features for all attorneys and staff and to enhance workflow. In addition, prosecutors may be eligible for remote work up to two days per week.
Incorporated in 1856, Eau Claire County's mission is "To provide quality, innovative and cost-effective services that safeguard and enhance the well-being of residents and resources." Covering 655 square miles in northwest Wisconsin, Eau Claire County government services touch those who live in the county, visitors, and others in the Chippewa River Valley.
Eau Claire is located approximately 89 miles East of the Twin Cities, 85 miles North of La Crosse, and 177 miles northwest of Madison.
Salary Information
The starting salary for the position will be $80,267 annually ($38.59 per hour).
Job Details
Attorneys who are currently employed by the State of Wisconsin are encouraged to apply and may be able to transfer at their current pay rate. Attorneys who have left the position of Wisconsin elected District Attorney or Assistant District Attorney within the last five years may be able to be hired at a wage rate above the minimum.
Qualifications
Only attorneys who have been admitted to practice law in the State of Wisconsin may be hired.
