What is a remote copywriter?

Remote copywriters may work on-staff for a company or as independent contractors. Their specific tasks vary, depending on the type of organization and industry. But remote copywriters have the same job duties as an in-house copywriter; the only difference is that remote copywriters do not perform their job duties in the office. The primary responsibility of remote copywriters is to develop content that promotes a product or service or provides information to the targeted audience. As a remote copywriter, you conduct research on the relevant topics for a project, strategize how to communicate this goal, and think creatively about the material and audience for the project. Many remote copywriters are also expected to complete their text within specific deadlines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote copywriter?

To thrive as a Remote Copywriter, you need exceptional writing, editing, and research skills, often supported by a degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and collaboration platforms like Google Workspace or Slack is typically required. Creativity, time management, and strong communication skills help you produce engaging content and work effectively with remote teams. These abilities are crucial for delivering high-quality copy that meets client objectives and deadlines in a distributed work environment.

How does a remote copywriter typically collaborate with clients and team members across different time zones?

Remote copywriters often work with clients and colleagues located in various time zones, which requires effective communication and flexibility. They commonly use digital collaboration tools such as Slack, Trello, or Google Workspace to share drafts, gather feedback, and stay aligned with project timelines. Scheduling regular check-ins and being responsive to messages helps ensure smooth workflow, while clear documentation of revisions and project goals minimizes misunderstandings. Adapting to asynchronous communication and proactively managing deadlines are key to succeeding in this distributed work environment.

Job description

Job Summary

The Senior Copywriter will bring seasoned writing and content strategy expertise to a team that supports marketing efforts across WebstaurantStore, The Restaurant Store, Clark National Accounts, and other core services. This role goes beyond writing individual pieces of copy — you'll help shape content strategy, bring creative ideas to the table, and partner closely with design teams on integrated campaigns. We're looking for a confident self-editor with agency or in-house advertising experience who can operate independently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Copywriter, you will:

  • Write customer-facing copy for a range of digital & print marketing tactics, including emails, landing pages, paid social, direct mail, flyers, signage, apps, and ads
  • Develop strategic internal deliverables like brand guides, messaging platforms, and training modules
  • Own and write for large, cross-channel campaigns as well as routine monthly deliverables for various company divisions
  • Collaborate with Product Design, Graphic Design, Video, Paid Media, Marketing Automation, and other teams to ideate and execute integrated campaigns at a fast pace
  • Identify missing reference material and proactively speak up or ask questions to eliminate gaps
  • Shape content and messaging strategy, contributing high-level campaign ideas rather than working from a brief alone
  • Advocate for your creative perspective, evaluating feedback against project goals and making recommendations
  • Participate in subject line and other on-page testing, reviewing results and adjusting content approaches as appropriate
  • Self-edit and proofread work for accuracy, brand voice, and grammar before it moves to review
  • Work with stakeholders across multiple departments, translating feedback and business goals into clear, on-brand copy
  • Maintain consistent voice and tone within campaigns with the ability to adapt across divisions
  • Offer suggestions for how to improve processes, tools, and workflows
Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.
Remote Work Qualifications
  • Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks.
  • Access to a home router and modem.
  • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible).
  • A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment.
  • The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc.
  • Legal residents of one of the following states: (AK, AL, AR, AZ, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, or WY). H-1B Visa Sponsorship Not Available, W2 only.
Experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a writing role focused on advertising, marketing, or direct response copy
  • Agency experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience developing campaigns from content strategy and creative ideation through execution
  • Track record of owning projects, including managing workflows, prioritizing work, and addressing feedback
  • Comfortable working directly with design teams, as well as stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Experience using project management systems like Asana and working with AI tools to augment the writing process
  • A portfolio of writing samples is required and will be reviewed before an interview is scheduled
Education

This role does not require a degree. We value relevant skills and experience and alignment with our core values above all else.

Desired Traits & Skills

We are looking for driven, self-directed candidates who:

  • Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and competing deadlines across a wide variety of formats
  • Take ownership of projects and see them through with minimal direction
  • Show strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills
  • Advocate for customer-focused copy solutions
  • Draw conclusions from data and use it to inform their recommendations
  • Readily adopt new tools into their work to drive better results
