Remote Conveyor Design information

What is a remote conveyor designer?

A Remote Conveyor Designer is a professional who creates plans and specifications for conveyor systems while working remotely, often from home or a remote office. They use computer-aided design (CAD) software and collaborate with clients, engineers, and manufacturers via digital communication tools. Their role involves designing efficient conveyor layouts, selecting appropriate materials, and ensuring that the system meets the client’s requirements and safety standards. Remote Conveyor Designers play a crucial role in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing, helping to optimize material handling processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote conveyor designer?

To thrive as a Remote Conveyor Designer, you need a strong background in mechanical engineering principles, conveyor system design, and CAD software proficiency, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and industry-specific simulation software, as well as knowledge of relevant safety and industry standards, is essential. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective virtual communication are key soft skills for collaborating with clients and remote teams. These skills ensure efficient, accurate conveyor system solutions that meet client requirements while maintaining safety and reliability in remote work environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote conveyor design, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote conveyor design often encounter challenges such as coordinating effectively with cross-functional teams across different time zones, ensuring up-to-date communication on project changes, and managing detailed technical specifications without in-person site visits. To address these challenges, it's essential to leverage collaborative design software, maintain clear documentation, and schedule regular virtual meetings with stakeholders. Additionally, using simulation tools and digital twins can help verify design accuracy and streamline the approval process, even when working remotely.

What is the difference between Remote Conveyor Design vs Remote Mechanical Engineer?

Job description

As a Mechanical Design Engineer , you will develop detailed coating equipment designs. This position will develop new coating machinery layouts, provide system calculations for utility and throughput function, create equipment specifications, as well as provide additional project support through the development phases. This is a remote role with up to 25% travel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop machine concepts for new equipment opportunities using ACAD and/or Solidworks, using principles of equipment design, engineering, and manufacturing
  • Complete capacity studies using part data inputs to determine equipment size and throughput
  • Calculate and determine utility requirements for new and existing equipment
  • Develop complex equipment specifications to source various sub-components of the coating system (process tanks / washers / conveyor / process piping / cure oven / various support equipment)
  • Complete Equipment Design Overview’s (EDO) for customer proposals to provide detailed information about the equipment offering
  • Design machine components, subsystems, and master assemblies in a model-centric environment for both internal and external capital equipment projects, using principles of equipment design, engineering, and manufacturing
  • Evaluate and select critical design components such as pumps, mixers, oven burners, exhaust fans, monorail chain conveyors, and conveyor drives
  • Ensure that machine designs meet required process sequence, engineering standards, applicable codes, customer specifications, and budgets
  • Collaborate with internal fabrication to ensure manufacturability and outside vendors to improve designs
  • Collaborate with suppliers to determine capital costs for new projects
  • Develop and maintain design 2D layouts for planning or system concepts
  • Decipher customer RFQ’s and develop custom equipment offerings from provided information
  • Complete P&ID’s to aid in information transfer to both internal and external customers
  • Develop project schedules for new equipment builds
  • Redesign standard machines to improve quality, market-competitiveness, and value, while decreasing cost
  • Act as a technical resource and participate in cross-functional teams
  • Complete additional assignments and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required
  • 5+ years of experience in design-to-build environments for large capital equipment projects is preferred
  • Experience in design of paint coating equipment and systems (washers, ovens, immersion tanks, & conveyor systems) highly desired
  • Extensive knowledge of 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent) is required
  • Open to remote work; Ability to travel approximately 25% of time outside base office location
