Job description

Position Overview 

We are seeking a Hardware in the Loop Engineer to join our team and support the development and validation of advanced control systems for power generation projects. This role will focus on creating dynamic models of power plants and control systems using MATLAB/Simulink, and performing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing with platforms such as Opal-RT and Speedgoat. The ideal candidate will have experience in automated testing, compliance with grid standards, and guiding other engineers through simulation and validation processes. This role will need to be able to come into the office in Perrysburg, OH as needed to set up equipment for testing, but can perform the testing remotely.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop detailed power plant and control system models in MATLAB/Simulink for multiple projects. 
  • Configure and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulations using Opal-RT and Speedgoat platforms. 
  • Assist in equipment selection for HIL testing setups. 
  • Design and implement automated test scripts and reporting tools to validate control systems under various grid conditions. 
  • Simulate and analyze system performance under diverse scenarios, including ERCOT grid requirements and IEEE 2800 compliance. 
  • Provide technical guidance to other controls engineers on running tests and interpreting results. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure models and tests align with project objectives and regulatory standards. 
  • Maintain documentation of models, test procedures, and compliance reports. 
  • Other duties as required by management.

Requirements

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related field. 
  • 3-5 years of experience in control systems modeling and simulation. 
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for dynamic system modeling. 
  • Hands-on experience with Opal-RT and Speedgoat platforms for HIL testing. 
  • Strong understanding of power systems, grid interconnection standards, and control theory. 
  • Familiarity with ERCOT requirements and IEEE 2800 standards. 
  • Experience developing automated test frameworks and generating reports. 
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automation. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment. 
  • Authorization to work in the US.

This role offers a base salary of $120,000 - $130,000 (DOE)
