What is a remote contract job?

A remote contract job is a position where an individual is hired to perform specific tasks or projects for a company on a contractual basis, but works from a location outside of the company's physical office—often from home or another remote location. These contracts can range from short-term gigs to long-term agreements, and typically outline the scope of work, payment terms, and duration. Remote contract jobs are popular in fields like IT, writing, design, and consulting, offering flexibility for both employers and workers. Contractors are usually responsible for their own taxes and benefits, as they are not considered full-time employees.

What are the qualifications to get a remote contract job?

The primary qualifications for a remote contract job vary by position, though a college degree and several years of experience are helpful for almost all remote jobs. Employers strongly prefer to hire independent contractors who have demonstrated experience and success within the industry, so the more you've worked in your field of expertise, the easier it is to get a remote contract job doing the same type of work. Employers may also ask you to pass a test of some kind. This is especially common in areas like translation and programming. Fulfilling your responsibilities and duties in a remote contract job requires communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage your time. Many contractors partner with agencies to help find work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote contract professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Contract professional, strong self-management, time management, and expertise in your field—often demonstrated through a relevant degree or portfolio—are essential. Familiarity with collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, project management systems (e.g., Asana, Trello), and electronic contract platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, reliability, and adaptability help you build trust and effectively coordinate with remote teams and clients. These skills ensure productive, high-quality work while maintaining strong client relationships from a distance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote contract roles, and how can they be addressed?

Remote contract professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication with clients, managing time zones, and staying motivated without direct supervision. To address these issues, it's helpful to establish regular check-ins, utilize project management tools, and set clear expectations at the start of each contract. Additionally, creating a dedicated workspace and a structured daily routine can improve productivity and work-life balance.

Job description

Requirement - Product Owner – U.S. P&C Insurance Domain

Location- Atlanta, GA (Remote)

Contract W2/1099

Experience Level: 8+ years overall, with at least 5 years in the U.S. P&C insurance domain

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Business Analyst / Product Owner (BA/PO) to join our team and drive the design, development, and delivery of innovative insurance technology solutions. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in the U.S. Property & Casualty (P&C) domain — preferably in commercial and specialty insurance — with a deep understanding of the end-to-end insurance value chain, from quoting and underwriting to policy servicing and compliance.
This role requires a blend of domain knowledge, product thinking, and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable deliverables for engineering and QA teams in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities
•  Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams to ensure alignment on scope, priorities, and deliverables.
•  Own the product backlog: define, refine, and prioritize user stories and epics based on business value and stakeholder input.
•  Lead requirements elicitation through stakeholder interviews, workshops, JAD sessions, and document findings in BRDs, FRDs, and user stories.
•  Collaborate with underwriting, product, operations, and compliance teams to ensure business and regulatory requirements are accurately captured.
•  Partner with development and QA teams to clarify requirements, define acceptance criteria, and validate functional behavior during testing cycles.
•  Support UAT planning and execution, reviewing test cases, validating results, and facilitating sign-offs.
•  Contribute to MVP definition, product roadmap planning, and release prioritization.
•  Proactively identify business risks, dependencies, and improvement opportunities; provide data-driven recommendations.
•  Participate in Agile ceremonies — sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and demos, as a key member of the Scrum team.
•  Ensure all deliverables adhere to compliance, regulatory, and operational standards across jurisdictions.

Required Skills & Experience
•  In-depth knowledge of the U.S. P&C insurance domain, including products, processes, and regulatory landscape.
•  Hands-on experience across the policy lifecycle — quoting, underwriting, binding, issuance, servicing, endorsements, and renewals.
•  Strong understanding of underwriting, rating, and product configuration concepts.
•  Proven experience in requirements elicitation and documentation — BRDs, FRDs, use cases, user stories, and process flows.
•  Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize a product backlog using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
•  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and deliver actionable insights.
•  Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across business and technology teams.
•  Experience working with commercial and specialty lines insurers is strongly preferred.
•  Familiarity with compliance and regulatory standards in the insurance domain.
•  Proficiency with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Miro, and MS Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications
•  Exposure to insurance platform modernization or digital transformation initiatives.
•  Experience collaborating with offshore/onshore delivery models.
•  Background in data-driven insurance products, analytics, or workflow automation.
•  Certifications such as CSPO, CBAP, or IIBA-AAC are a plus.
